Re: What do EA kids from EA parents look like? « Result #1 Yesterday at 6:36pm »
Eureka I discovered one today. Coworker of mine from Hawaii with both parents half white half Filipino. I don't know what her parents look like, but this girl looks Hispanic so I guess we could say she looks like a clear shot Eurasian.
Like the biggest nerds are not White.. It's funny how on this very forum people tend to perpetuate the asexual work-freak Asian nerd stereotype, the couple I know are quite normal and I believe they are the majority.
I wasn't perpetuating it rather than pointing out that it IS a stereotype. Asians face the problem of being labeled off as such even if they aren't one. So I was pointing out that EA guys (and gals, for that matter) I know will often go out of their way to disassociate themselves with any Asians so as to stay clear of the stereotype.

I'm rather adverse to being mislabeled as white (although there is absolutely no chance of that) but I prefer to be thought as mono-racially Asian. It irritates me when Asian people point out that I'm only half Asian, it all depends on context of course but usually it feels like they're calling me a poser. Anyway, if people ask what I am nowadays, I just say Chinese, as opposed to half Chinese.
However somewhat on topic, what's getting on my nerves at the moment. There is this white guy, a good friend of mine, who still cannot grasp the fact that I'm Malaysian Chinese. Since I told him I was Malaysian first, every time I say I'm Chinese he's like "no you're not". Yes, yes I am - that is why most of my family have names like Tham, Leung and Yang, why we celebrate Chinese New Year etc.

Booking my flight ticket for Brasilia, the wonders of Niemeyer's architecture are awaiting me, he designed the Brazilian capital in what was a forest at the time, sheer genius.

I was one question away from Brazil (are you disciplined?)
i didn t get that question... i m assuming it changes according to the answer you give to the first few questions...
i got China...
<img src="http://bluepyramid.org/ia/china.gif> You're China! Big and powerful, you have a long history behind you with more good and bad than you care to remember, or are really capable of remembering. Lately, in older age, you've gotten sort of crochety and even mean-spirited. There is still a lot that's beautiful about you, but most of the focus people have when they think about you is how hard it is to work with you. There's hope that you might start opening up to people, but lots of people have bumper stickers about how much you should change.
like any quiz...some of it is on point but then again it s not complicated to be on point when you make broaad generalisations like they do...i hope i m not mean spirited though (and i doubt i am) but i somehow take offense to the fact that they associate this trait with china....oh well...

Looks like I'm Thailand too. Which is strange, because I don't remember being into monarchies, ladyboys, or kick-boxing. I was one question away from Brazil (are you disciplined?) I don't know why answering yes (and doing the different follow-ups) made me Brazil and no made me Thailand.

Re: Going to clubs / bars solo... « Result #8 Yesterday at 12:35pm »
I have done it (all over Latin America, never really in Asia or Europe). Usually leads to lots of drinking at the bar, followed sometimes by dancing if I get drunk enough, some flirtation and the occasional hookup. I'm glad those days are over, but by all means go for it. Part of the reason you are going to a club or bar and paying higher prices is to meet people and flirt with strangers after all - if all you ever do is hang out with your friends, you are somewhat defeating the purpose (especially when its a big group of guys). There are no doubt advantages to having wing-men but there can also be disadvantages, and a guy drinking alone at the bar is not such an unusual sight - you're only a creep if you act like one.

^I've also found that EA females are more likely to embrace it. This could be part of the ploy to add any exoticism to themselves as a method of self-marketing as Jefe noted. I've often found that Eurasian males, unless they are the more Asian-looking type, will gravitate more toward their Caucasian side and associate mainly with Caucasians. The ones I've known wanted little to do with their Asian side (or other Eurasians), probably out of fear of being labeled off as another Asian nerd. Sad, but I understand why they think that way.
There was a show on Comedy Central called Crossballs: The Debate Show (2004). The aim of the show was to prank the experts with outrageous comedians (who also posed as experts). It was suppose to a satire on political dialogue in the U.S. media.
One of those expert (comedians) was a Nazi dog breeder by the name of Herr Besser. Later in the show he introduces his partner in the restoring the purity of the breeds, a Shih Tzu dog breeder wearing a uniform of the Imperial Japanese Army. The reactions from the guests were hilarious.
"German shepherds are the best breed in the world and the only breed that we need."
This made me lol. I am so searching youtube for that now.
Good luck, the memory of that show has almost disappeared from existence. A torrent search might work better.

^You wont' find me in a crowd. I get this feeling I'm stampeding over a cliff. It's like I'm being buried in a mass grave where the bodies are all standing up.
Anywho, I know more EA girls than guys. And this is not from people watching and approaching them. Truth is... I probably assumed they were all Asian until they talked about their families. That said, I've probably met EA guys that I never figured to be EA. Men aren't as liable to talk about their families as women. So without a social broadcast, I probably missed the EA guys.
I'd say there is more of a gender imbalance in self identification (as EA) than there is in being EA. These guys aren't wearing top hats and long trench coats. Our EA radar may not be as sensitive as we think it is.

I say we start a poll. that'll resolve the question. for my 2 cents I think it's probably pretty even. statistically it's to be expected. maybe because guys are more low key they blend into the crowd more.

you know I'm 6'2" (like 187cm) but I'm really intrigued by the idea of a tall girlfriend... of course it also would mean freakishly tall children if we married

Re: Eurasian gender imbalance « Result #26 Yesterday at 12:24am »
Maybe we can rephrase the comment to make it sound less harsh:
1. Females¡¦ image is often largely based on their looks.
Males¡¦ image also may include factors based on their looks, but the willingness for females and other males to work / cooperate a male is less related to their looks, but also on his style, intelligence, track record, integrity, other skills. Only if the males¡¦ occupation is more related to their looks (eg, model, VJ, etc.) would more emphasis be placed on their looks.
Females, on the other hand, must recognize that their image is largely influenced by their looks. And, an exotic look (or even the suggestion of something exotic reflected in their EA background) can make their image more appealing, not only in modeling but in other areas of business and social intercourse.
2. Gender imbalance in factors relating to success in relationships
For a male to be successful at what he does, people have to be comfortable working with him, or trusting his motivations (ie, what makes him *tick*, not necessarily the same as trusting HIM). This indirectly forces the male to downplay his EA ness to a certain extent. He must not be too *oriental* for the white guy and not too *foreign* to the Asians, or they will never be able to ascertain or trust his motivations. He may downplay his EA ness subconsciously, without even realizing that that is what he is doing. And I think this would apply whether the location is very multi-racial or entirely monoracial.
So maybe "downplay" is a better word than "conceal".
Obama must always downplay his mixed ethnic / racial heritage in order to appeal to both whites and blacks (and Asians and Latinos), except for the rare instance when he needs to play that card (as he had to do to disassociate himself with Reverend Wright).
However, people ARE attracted to working with females if they are attractive looking, and an EA exoticism could help with that. They have less reason or incentive to downplay it. The only exception would be circumstances where they must appeal to people for reasons not related to their looks. For example, a female EA president or Supreme Court Justice would have to downplay her EA ness as well.
You have no idea how many young lives end in tragedy when they take a wrong turn into a cornfield. In all seriousness, I suspect that living in a small rural town is exactly the kind of thing that drives you to drugs, drinking, depression, and tragedy. I'm surprised that emo didn't originate among remote Northern Innu communities in Canada.
You are basically correct, betahat. Emo is popular mostly amongst small town whitetrash youth. They are the latch key kids who skateboard around school buildings and grow up to realize their lives will always suck so the only thing to do for fun is drugs. This lifestyle and mentality has gotten leaked over to suburbia throughout the years, which is how I've become so familiar with it. The general rule of thumb is the more piercings a person has on their face, the lower the household income. Lots of drugs, alcohol, cutting, tattoos, and teen pregnancy. I would say about 80% of people in trailer parks are emo. It was always hard for me to get emo kids to talk, but once you mention Metallica or Slipknot you'd get them going.
I fell on my ass today on the icey pavement and it hurt like hell. Funny how people will try to pretend they didn't see it so as to not embarrass you. But you know they saw it and they are silently laughing. And then you have to do that thing where you burst out laughing so it makes it look less embarrassing for you, even though you really want to cry or cuss someone out.
Awwww.
Reminds me about the time I fell into a stack/ pile of bread at school in the 6th grade. And that time I rushed out of the bus because I didn't want to keep my boyfriend waiting too long for me. It was raining and I slipped on some mud. I ruined my favorite pair of pants that day.

I was half-kidding - there are lots of tails of tragedy in small towns or rural areas, usually involving traffic accidents or the occasional drowning in a lake (e.g. Laura Bush, Ted Kennedy). I think urban alienation and rural isolation might be two sides of the same coin, but I'm not speaking from experience as my life has been decidedly suburban
