Me, I'm thinking it starts cheezy... and then near the end, it morphs into something fun/ridiculous that gets everyone on the dancefloor and singing along ....... (can't think of one yet!) This was the first thing that came to mind for me When/if I get married, I'd like to do something like that too.

heh. i spent ages watching youtube vids similar to that last year - some are really impressive! i was with my friend preparing for her wedding in Phuket and picking her song. they ended up just slow dancing
i haven't decided on the 'first song' (let alone the groom!) but eric clapton's Wonderful Tonight will definately be on the play list.

probably hot blooded by foreigner... but then that's why you get married isn't it? so you've got someone to stop you from doing such stupid s***.

We had some traditional Jewish music (including a Siman Tov Mazel Tov and a Hora medley) as well as some classics (Across the Universe and In My Life for the processional and recessional). Our first dance was The Way You Look Tonight (cliche, yes, but still a classic) which we learned some Foxtrot steps for (but gave up about halfway through), and I also really enjoyed My Girl later. We had an amazing band that played mostly Soul and Motown stuff with a little classic rock, some jazz standards, and contemporary dance stuff thrown in. They played a little bit too much "mainstream" stuff for my taste but the guests really enjoyed it (which is the most important thing) and they avoided YMCA, the electric slide, the Macarena, anything by Celine, etc. on pain of death. My main impression is that it is ok to be cliched - you can actually go wrong by trying to be too original - while still avoiding a cheesefest. There's a reason they're called classics.

^ I love the music you chose! Especially the beatles stuff and My Girl. I can imagine getting married to similar music one day.
penguinopolipitese hahaha "theme from knightrider" haha, oh man nooo but I would pretty much marry you just for saying that.

You can't really go wrong with the Beatles or Motown stuff - there's always a generation gap at weddings but there are some types of music that can really bridge it. [Then again, if your parents grew up in the 1980s you would be pretty much screwed, though there's always the Theme from Nightrider]
Everyone's probably seen this by now, but just in case:

I want something a little more mellow than most, something romantic. Got the perfect song picked out.
