4 days 6 to 6, 3 days 9 to 9. Weld burns on one job, boiling oil in the eye on the other ;D
Btw... that's a really nice thing to say Putts about my family, thank you for your support.

You'd be surprised how much French white collar positions require in terms of hours although working class and employees are around 35h/week. 40 hours/week on average is for academics/civil servants but managers, lawyers, architects, doctors are required to work well beyond this threshold.
Environment definitely has more influence on tastes etc but it's obvious genetics has something to do with it too, sadly I can't find to what extent.

At first glance I thought this thread was about colonial legacy in Asia.
Personally I don't think there's much of a correlation. My dad comes from a line of engineers (beginning two generations before him) but it's quite obvious that those were conscious decisions. There are things we all do that are modelled after our parents, whether we know it or not.
I'm very dubious about claims that genetics determine how hardworking or how clever people are - I would put those down to environment and culture more than anything else.

Though I've always tried to downplay the importance of genes from the irrational fear I might become morally-decadent and a coward like my father it is clear you cannot escape a lot of determinism. My parents are from working class backgrounds, they both completed bachelors in maths and my dad both had a master's and an MBA. Despite not being exceptionally smart I'd be lying if I said I'm dumber or less cultured than the average man on the street. Despite growing up in a low-income household, having little authority, not being stable emotionally nor geographically and thus being a stereotypical iconoclast juvenile delinquent for years, I'm inches away from making it.
If I really wanted I'd already be earning 50$k as I was offered an Hb1 visa and a marketer job at a big name web agency in Manhattan but considering I wish to have a positive impact on people's lives not serve selfish corporate interests I'm furthering my education with the certitude I have given my profile significant chances to join the UN in a few years. So me terribly sucking at exact sciences while everyone in my family excels at it (my sister is a financial analyst, my brother an biochemical engineer) is a total genetic mystery but my personal experience convinced me that genes unmistakedly are an unstoppable force at least equal to environment or willpower.
