Firstly, I'll have to ask people to pardon my ignorance, as I have never truly known someone who is of black and Asian descent. I apologise if I end up saying anything extremely stupid (please do correct me if that happens). I've only read a few posts and blogs from Blasians in various communities.
From my limited experience, it appears that Blasians tend to lean more towards black culture as opposed to Asian culture. More specifically, black American culture, no matter where they are located. I see it clearly among celebrities and rising stars, but these aren't average people. It seems as if a number of Asian populations have a strong dislike of black people. I am wondering if Blasians are subjected to racism from full Asians when they attempt to learn more about their Asian culture and that this is one reason why they end up leaning more towards black culture only.
I have also heard that, when someone looks black, a lot of pressure is put onto them by their peers of the same ethnicity to 'act' black. For example, a friend's 100% black children in Canada have been bullied for not behaving or dressing in the way their peers would expect them to. One might ask, 'Doesn't everyone get bullied by peers for being different?', but from what I have heard, the harassment and bullying among black children and teenagers is far more severe. If the child/teen does not 'assimilate' to whatever it is that has been deemed appropriate by their peers, they are accused of disowning their black heritage and are bullied even more. I have no way of knowing if everyone experiences this, but I've heard it fairly often.
I would like to hear from any Blasians as to whether any of this has been their experience, or if they are more in touch with their Asian side, or if they have other reasons for associating more with one culture than the other.
