"Amerasian" has very negative connotations to me as well. You don't combine a nationality with a continent, it's just uneven. Continent with continent, I say. Besides which, it definitely reeks of "white American GI + his Asian conquest = you." Ewww. I know the term started with this but it definitely takes two to tango imo. "Eurasian" is also a combination of continents but everyone here obviously uses that to define their ethnicities/nationalities don't they? Even though many of the American EA's here (including myself) have never stepped foot in Europe or the region of "Eurasia." Again: it's not about where you were born, it's about your bloodline. There are also EAs who've never stepped foot in Asia, yet I doubt you would tell them to drop the whole Asian thing since they've never been there and call themselves Ameripean. Yet it's cool to drop the Euro bit and call yourself Amerasian just because you've never been to Europe? I smell hypocrisy. American is a nationality, combining a nationality with a continent is simply stupid. Sorry but that's my take on it. I've lived in Europe and Asia, but even if I had never been in either I would be no less Eurasian. American is my nationality, it's what's on my passport. It says nothing about race. It is only assumed by Eurocentric Americans that "American" automatically means "white" and that therefore combining "Asian" and "American" equates the same meaning as "Eurasian." It doesn't.

No one's dropping the American bit. American is your nationality. It has nothing to do with race. When describing yourself in racial terms, it is not necessary to call yourself American, because that is your nationality, not your race. To combine your nationality with half of your racial background, yet leave the other half out of it, is silly. And Eurocentric, because it is basically assuming that your "American" part is "white." I didn't say that it didn't matter where I was a born, it matters, I'm American. I was saying that where I was born has nothing to do with my racial background. Combining, basically, a racial background with a nationality is ridiculous. Eurasian is someone who is half of European blood and half of Asian blood. Amerasian is half Asian and...uhhhh? What? Half American? How can you be half American? It's not possible unless you're talking about dual citizenship. If anything, if we were talking about backgrounds, then Amerasian should REALLY mean half Asian and half Native-American. American doesn't mean white, so saying that you're Amerasian makes no sense at all. And it IS equating American to white, whether you want to admit it or not. And you know what?

Oh, and about Blasian, that makes much more sense than Amerasian. "Black" is not a nationality. It's a racial category. Just as "Asian" is a racial category. Combining the two is combining two racial categories. Combining a specific nationality with a racial category is basically mixing apples with oranges. It just makes no sense.

hapa generally means half, and originally it jus meant half hawaiian and half somthing else, idk how it got to b half asian? brenda song would b considered a hapa bcuz shes half hmong and half thai, because hapa means MIXED asian, hapa doesnt describe a a race but people with similiar backrounds. actully hapa really means any biracial people in general means any type of biracial person
