dolcedolce: I've run into some people who think it's "politcally correct" to "hand over," if you will, the term "Eurasian" to the folks who live in the geographic area that is actually deemed Eurasia. I personally think we have every right to use the term as well; some people just don't understand the concept of cultural slang, how language evolves. So, to answer your question, I guess it can swing either way.

Some Eurasian countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan. I don't think all of these countries experienced, say, a Mongolian invasion (as previously mentioned concerning other areas). Its name is mostly a reflection of its location (the Eurasian Plate is compromised of bits of Europe, but most of Asia).

I think most of these people such as Kazakhs and Uzbeks put down "Asian" in forms here in the west. Most of them check the "other" box though. But the term Eurasian can definitely be used for both people i.e. a person of Asian and Euro descent and a person from the geographic Eurasian continent. These Central Asians definitely look like an amalgam of European and Asian ethnics, but they do have this distinct "Turk" look to them, even without the whole ethnic getup. Interesting stuff.

^Awesomeness. I've always wanted to go there myself. How's it like? I heard it's kind of dangerous to go there.

Well, Turpan as a whole was really awesome. It was a great day on my silk road trip. The gaochang ruins themselves were unimpressive, though, since they've been sorta defaced by lots of toursists who don't care, and locals who's minds are more on giving their sheep something to eat. But the *JiaoHe* ruins, on the other side of Turpan. *THEY* were amazing. there's so much to see in that area, though. here's a link to a big pic of the jiaohe ruins. you can see how well preserved they are. You could spend an entire day, just wandering around the ruins, discovering stuff. tinypic.com/96kio2.jpg
