^ I definitely think it should be banned in bars and restaurants. Do it out back in the alley with the rest of the junkies.
I agree with that statement, but no need to be so judgmental. Some smokers are assholes. Some aren't - some are very considerate, some have tried to quit many times, some are mothers and fathers and their addiction is killing them. Your friend who smokes in the car with his kids does sound like an asshole, but there's no need to generalize. As for whether a little bit of second hand smoke OUTDOORS or a few butts bothers you, if you take the same attitude towards all forms of litter and all forms of air pollution (including car exhaust) then you must spend a lot of time yelling at the world and grumbling to yourself.

Ha ha you said anal.
I don't smoke so I can't quit but I wouldn't expect someone else to quit smoking for me. I simply would never date a smoker because it's such an unattractive habit. I can't stand the smell and don't want to kiss someone who tastes like an ashtray.

As someone who has done this before, I will not only say YES, but I will say it is one of the easier ways to quit.
Quitting for your own benefit is much more difficult, I think. Quitting for someone else's benefit is comparatively easier, like for example if you have children and quit smoking. It's easier to actively care about the health and comfort of others than it is about yourself, for some backwards reason.
I've quit twice in my life. Once was when a girl I cared about very much told me she hated the smell. I quit that day, and didn't smoke again until we broke up.
The second time was after I was forced to re-evaluate my health, after the relapse of an old injury. The injury had nothing to do with smoking but I figured that being healthier in general would help it to not resurface again. That was about 4 months ago and I've been clean and smokeless ever since.

I did try, Hyena, to think of a habit similar to smoking that causes cancer and directly affects everyone in my vicinity but I couldn't think of any. The closest I could come up with is wearing perfume

Driving a car's not similar to smoking. I drive one because I work night shifts and I live 30km from my workplace. I don't reek of smoke after I've been driving one, nor would I if I stood next to a road for half an hour. When I'm done driving I don't leave pieces of my car littering the sidewalk. I seriously doubt I would give myself or my partner cancer from driving (except if it was brand new and still had that new car chemical smell, maybe). Smokers drive cars and use electricity because they improve your quality of life. How does smoking improve your quality of life? I think the strawberry thing is bulls*** (get that from a women's magazine?) and the link between brain cancer and cell phones is still debatable. A lot of people get correlation and causation confused. By the way, what's your cell phone number?

But isn't this thread about a habit that directly affects your significant other? If your partner smokes, it's impossible to get away from it. Somebody eating strawberries or using their cell phone is easy to deal with. Industry and cars as a collective whole certainly do affect people's health but aren't we talking about a personal habit? So shouldn't an equivalent habit be something that I enjoy, that smells (or affects one of the other senses of someone nearby) and causes cancer??? I personally don't care about the health effects of smoking too much because I avoid people when they're smoking and if someone wants to slowly kill themselves (there are many, many ways of doing so) then so be it.

Meh, as I said, I don't expect anyone to give up smoking for me so I wouldn't give up an intrinsic personal habit for someone else. You have to accept your partner for who they are otherwise there's no point in being in the relationship. If you don't like smoking then don't date a smoker. If you can't stand people who love strawberries then don't get into a relationship with a strawberry-lover. I think that's fairly simple and obvious.
THE END
Unless anyone wants to fight some more. I hear stray likes photos of random young boys.

Smoking is banned in all restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs etc in my state. Basically, it is banned in any indoors venue, without any designated smoking areas whatsoever (unless you leave the premises). It is also banned inside all vehicles if children are present.
I think it's absolutely fantastic and agree with these laws 100%.

^ What if it was a sexy young oncologist fresh out of med school? "To hell with my lungs. But if you ask me because you love me and not because you're my doctor, I might find a reason to live."
