All I play now is golf. I used to like softball and basketball. Can't really keep up now. Golf has its moments, though. Ratty muni course, Par 4, 311 yards (elevated tee), here's the drive: Missed the eagle putt. Do we have any baseball players? Lacrosse? Soccer (football)?

I'm a huge Hoops fan. Just saw a Cal game (almost a lock for the tournament!) and a Warriors game last week when my brother was in town. I also play pick-up ball at least once a week and at one point played (though mostly sat on the bench) of an Argentine University Team (at least Division II in Argentina if not III). Anyway, here are some pics from a much anticipated 2005 match-up between myself and my Ecuadorian room-mate in Argentina against the Swiss and the Uruguayan. Of course we dominated - I think I got the block off in the pic (against my room-mate, I guess from a subsequent game). I enjoy playing most sports, but only really watch basketball, American football, and International Soccer (go Paraguay!). But the only one I'm half-way decent at and play regularly is Bball.

I play soccer/football. Don't have time to play in a team anymore back home, so I stick to informal games with friends when our schedules coincide. I've joined my uni team here in France, and I'm rekindling with the fun of being part of a team. The camaraderie is the best, on top of my absolutely feeling great when playing soccer. Generally speaking, I think I'm more of a (big) team sport girl. I played handball and basketball when younger and I find myself more likely to join an impromptu game of basketball than say seeking out a racquet and playing only with one partner. I'm kind of disappointed in how women's football is treated as an after-thought in Europe though. My team here plays with 7 players only, and when I asked a French guy why, he was surprised to hear I played on a team of 11 players back home. Apparently, women don't generally play with 11 players here, only once you hit a certain level. Which brings me to pro sport. I don't watch it. Pro soccer especially can get ridiculous with so many players faking injuries on the field. It's ruining a sport that should be be axed on technique and team-building, unlike other sports (cough*hockey*cough), where a match can't happen without players getting into a fight.

Those damned frogeaters still cannot understand that Italy won 2006 World Soccer Cup, LOSERS!!!

^Exactly.
France's goal in the world cup final came from a legitimate dive where there was no possibility of a foul.
It's such an ignorant stereotype that Italy dives so much in football, when there are worse cases of serial diving from teams like Brazil and France.
edit: I love football (soccer), AFL (Australian football) and tennis.
These are the sports I can analyse quite well.
I enjoy watching and playing other sports too, however cannot enjoy them to the same degree because I cannot analyse them as well as the above sports.
I'm an analytical person by nature, so I find it hard to understand how people can love a sport so much, if they cannot analyse what's happening in a game... it's like 'enjoying' a movie because the people in it are attractive and the setting is appealing to the eye, despite not being able to follow the plot.

Great thread!! (I'll avoid clicking on any soccer/football videos as they litter the net and every channel on TV. At this very second, there are 48,429 goal celebrations going on.... all ornate and rife with pageantry..... because you know, a goal in soccer is just so rare you need to celebrate it like it's f*cking Mardi Gras) I LOVE every sport (except ping pong). Used to play absolutely everything out of college but had to give almost all of them up for work or one reason or another. My career highlight remains an alley oop dunk in basketball on a regulation net (serious) and then slipping on the rim and breaking my leg (even more serious) and then letting that broken leg and a crappy work life turn me into a pathetic, cantankerous excuse of a person/athlete. ... but that all ends in a few weeks my friends

nice thread Never tried golf, one day tho', one day... It always looked a bit boring to me, probably because I know nothing about it. @ emily: I've always wanted to play soccer (was a really good goalkeeper), but it was a boys only team in our hometown and they didn't want me :/ As a kid, I was into any kind of sports that was offered near my hometown or school and would've still liked to do more if I had the time. I started out with gymnastics and swimming, then got into athletics, then came badminton and handball, only to find myself in ballett classes and in the school basketball team. Having moved out of home, I found it much harder to join sports clubs, coz I was too shy to register. So I just started swimming again, but swimming lengthes all the time can get a bit boring. So for some time, the only sport I did was riding my bike to uni every day, if that counts... For the last five years or so, I have been doing Taekwondo and, when I have time, still like to play badminton or make bike tours. I would love to try rock climbing one day. Looks like fun to me!!! As far as watching sports on TV goes: I'm not so keen on watching women's bodybuilding championships, curling events or chess championships but apart from that, love watching sports any kind of sports on TV.

rob - how tall are you? And were you standing on a chair? Dunking the ball has always been a dream but I have such a pathetic vertical (even at 6'2) that I'm really not close, even if I could palm the ball. Diving and flopping are integral parts of all team sports with subjectively called fouls/penalties. The games wouldn't be half as much fun if you didn't get to yell at the ref/tv every time there is a terrible call. I actually find the offside rule in soccer to be more infuriating than flopping since a blown call there doesn't involve any skill (re: acting) by a player.

I think that it'd be even more fun if we got rid of all of the fouls/penalties, and just let them go at it! ;D
