ditto, im satisfied with being one of the best rather than THE best... though, i wouldn't mind. i always seem to taper off once im in the top 10%. once ive proven i can be in that upper echelon i just stop caring. its weird.

I'm competitive in that I want to be better than everyone at everything, but I usually don't wear it on the outside and over the years I've learned to accept that you can't really be the best at anything. I like winning in sports and other games but I don't get upset if I lose (unlike some friends of mine). I think growing up and being the older brother I must have been insufferably competitive and domineering, but that has tempered with age. These days I mostly just set high goals for myself, and try and see things in an absolute standard rather than a relative one (so I'm happy to see others do well). I totally agree with everything you just said. It's good to be competitive for showing good sportsmenship, but you definitely can't be the best at everything. Well the truth is...I am not the best at anything, but at least I trying my best at whatever I think is worth the effort. That's what makes me satisfied and happy in life

Mongol way = Meritocracy amongst nomads Nomadic meritocracy = Me against my brother, me and my brother against my cousin, me my brother and my cousin against the world!
Competitiveness is how the pack leaders amongst wolves are chosen.

None of you have anything on me when it comes to trying to match my competitiveness. Its no comparison. The mods might as well just close this thread after I'm done posting just save your energy from any futile attempts to compete with me. Actually, I'm very uncompetitive. I am not proud to say it, but many years of poor habits and attitude have made it very hard to push myself. Even when I want to compete with people, I just feel outmatched. Maybe this is a goofy question, but do any of you wish to be more competitive than you currently are?

I can sense competition here already, in a thread that asks how competitive you are. : /

I don't know if it's the manifestation of my Asian side but I'm competitive, striving to achieve the best in most things I do, I have a perfectionist-type work ethics. Not necessarily measurable successes though they do matter, it's more about self-empowerment than victory or prestige. The thrills of being confident enough to walk in a random place and leave with a date, of visiting a city and distinguishing what buildings belongs to Rococo, Baroque or Art Nouveau, satisfaction of performing beyond your limits, essentially feeling that through work you can fundamentally decide of your life regardless of unjust biological and social hierarchy.

I've never been. Almost the complete opposite actually.. Uncompetitive on an abnormal level. And I think I figured out why -- growing up with fussy siblings can wear a person out of that sort of thing. Getting constant "WTF?" moments of someone trying to outdo you can make you weary of it elsewhere. Anyone feel the same or is that just me? Not to say competitiveness is wrong. It's all good. Feel free to say whatever here. I'm exactly the same... very uncompetitive. A couple of my closest friends are the opposite who try and compete with me over everything and i don't realise until they say something like 'ha! i beat you!' I'm also rather uncompetitive. I absolutely hated how competitive the kids used to be in school when I was younger. Before the game had even begun people were already teasing and insulting each other and everything was about rubbing it in the face of whomever you beat. Not just taking a few seconds to say, 'Ha, beat you!', but to continue taunting them and calling them a 'loser', etc. for at least a good 10 minutes. So I've come to hate extreme competitiveness. In other areas I would say I can be a bit of a perfectionist, but it's not in a competitive way because I'm rarely comparing with others. I only compare it with my previous state and what I imagine to be my full potential.
