Used to watch alot of Pride. Haven't watched a single match in years. MMA lacks martial arts underlying philosophy and aesthetics (that's why I'm not into military close quarter combat or krav maga sport, they're effective but lack a strong cultural ties), it's not so much about defeating an opponent than it is about self-control, going beyond your mental or physical limits.
I've been practicing Fujian kung fu for 5+ years, did some competition for two years but I quit, I see it as a way to stay fit these days. I'm planning to switch to Muay thai, it's the most potent sport judging from the number of its practicioners' victories, I've hesitated between White Crane and Boran Thai boxing since I've started watching Thai action movies several years ago.
Have any of you ever used your techniques in street fights or do you just yell somebody call 911, sucker punch the guy and run ;D ?
