^ Sorry to hear that, it would be an awkward situation.
My parents aren't racist at all and wouldn't care. But the Japanese side of our family disowned us because we were too far removed from Japanese blood. Not all of them, my grandfather and his sister aren't racist either.

Money tends to erase all character and racial defects. Generally, their line of thinking might not be inherently racist, but materialistic: -Small village=poor -Dark skin=poor with low chance of economic mobility This is by far more of a concern with daughters. You'll just have to bring home a rich man.

I didn't even find out we were disowned until I was 17 or so. I'm starting to find it pointless to keep sacrificing myself against my temper though, doesn't do any good.

Both my parents are full Asian. It may be materialistic since both men do not earn higher incomes yet. One is an EMS worker and the other is a musician (that is another factor playing against their acceptance).
I love my family, but it's difficult knowing that there is only one type of person I can fall in love with lest I lose their acceptance.

My parents are starting to talk about my sisters like that--not the racist part (yet) but the materialistic outlook is developing. I wanted to stand up and shout, "Don't go deciding for them already!" But I worry too. There's an indelible scene in my head of a poor distraught mother advising her beautiful daughter. "Look at your mother. I married for love."
