Congrats to American skaters Apolo Anton Ohno (Japanese-American heritage) and J.R. Celski (Polish- Filipino) on their silver and bronze medal wins! Lol I was just going to post the thing about Ohno and Celski. But CATHY (got confused and said CHRISTINA at first haha), Chris, and Allison Reed (1/2 Japanese, 1/2 American siblings) are actually American-born ice skaters, just that they are competing for Japan (Figure skating pairs- Christina, Chris), and Allison Reed for the country of Georgia. There was a big fuss about this by some ignorant American people. I was so shocked when Yahoo! made it a headline. I thought...hey who cares...they can represent whatever they want.... Chris and Cathy Reed taken from icedance site: Their younger sister Allison Reed taken from the same site:

Vicky Sunohara (half Ukrainian, half Japanese) won gold for Canada last Olympics in Hockey Paul Kariya (half Japanese, half ??) played on Canada's hockey team which got the silver in the Olympics. Also plays for the Nashville Predators in the NHL and formerly of the Anaheim Ducks Not EA, but I thought he was for a second! Patrick Chan, Canadian mens champion and vying for gold .... and as I put in the other "Notable EAs in your neighbourhood", snowboarders Alexa Loo (half Chinese) and Kimiko Zakreski (half Japanese) competing in snowboard slalom.... both competing for Canada Alexa Kimmy I actually grew up playing hockey against Paul and I know Alexa from track and field..... needless to say, both of them kicked my butt

^ In some pictures Patrick Chan does look EA cause of his higher nose bridge, face structure, and skin color/tone. xD I was actually surprised when some people on Youtube though JR Celski was full caucasian..but to me, you can definitely tell he's EA, it must be an instinct! xD

Graham Watanabe, Team USA Snowboard Cross ... and double kudos b/c he's a pretty eloquent guy: ``Try to imagine Pegasus mating with a unicorn and the creature that they birth. I somehow tame it and ride it into the sky in the clouds and sunshine and rainbows. That’s what it feels like.”.... seems like the half Japanese are definitely taking the lead in the Eurasian games..... where are all the other EAs? Half Koreans? (no doubt too busy parading half-korean pride and being chauvinist pigs.... we ain't playing drinking games boys... Olympics are put-up-shut-up time) Half Chinese? (aren't there a billion of you? If just 1% of you decided to play winter sports instead of world of warcraft you guys would dominate) Half Filipinos? (still at American Idol auditions?) Half Indonesians? (you guys look progressively worse each year.... just like Eddie Van Halen) Half Thais? (you guys make half-filipino music sound good.... give it up and start playing sports) Half Indians? (Too busy arguing with each other I presume?) Given half-Japan's innovation and achievements thus far, I wouldn't be surprised if they take over the rest of half-Asia to show them how it's done.

And since most of you kids have no idea who Eddie Van Halen is, let me illustrate Eddie Van Halen (Half Indonesian) - BEFORE Eddie Van Helen - Today

For some reason, half-Japanese people are more popular in every media than half-Chinese dudes/dudettes, but it is CLEAR that this forum is dominated by half-chinese peeps. I guess us Chinese sit at home putting chopsticks up our noses, decide to go hit this forum, and THEN pwn other NUBS at WoW. Bottom line: We're just too yellow and nerdy.

What event is Eddie Van Halen doing? Shredding 0:56-1:11 is a riot!!! and so is 2:47 - 3:06!!!! think Groink posted this video way back ;D only discovered these shred videos a couple weeks ago and have been dying with laughter ever since! back on the topic of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics..... it's a pet peeve, and no it's not about the weather I'm getting pretty pissed off reading US Olympic coverage (esp through ESPN) where american wise ass journalists pepper their articles on Canada with "Canadian Bacon" "Aboot" and "eh" think they're being really funny. I'm not exactly a crank when it comes to humour, but are these even funny anywhere in the US? They don't even say "eh" in Vancouver. You might hear "aboot" in eastern canada or in a small rural setting and Canadian Bacon doesn't exist in Canada. Bacon is bacon and ham is ham. Americans invented the word "canadian bacon" for godknowswhat reason. Have these dipsh*ts even set foot in Vancouver before writing their articles? Still, even if it's all true. Is this funny? Does it put a large segment of US readers in stitches? Hey, there's a mexican over there. Hey bro, so do you like eat burritos and ride donkeys everyday? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA /rant

I read some of the articles you're talking about Rob. I think the only reason they write them is that your reaction to them is funny - nothing makes the Americans happier than seeing an ordinarily polite, reserved Canadian go apes*** and take offense to the most obvious caricature. Your rant (obviously echoed times 1,000,000 in the espn comment threads) just eggs them on. The fact is that we are stuck with those caricatures, thanks to genuinely funny shows like South Park, so you might as well embrace them. It's not like we don't do the same to Americans in general (though not the Olympics specifically - I don't remember too many polygamy jokes when the games were in Salt Lake City).

Well taken, but a few points: - For starters, I actually enjoy alot of the humour being leveled at Canadians/the Games. The "malfunctioning ice penises" of the opening ceremonies as called out by the British and the Colbert Icehole/syrupsucker jokes are actually funny (and most Canadians 'get it'). South Park (Terence & Philip) etc take it to an even funnier level and it's clear their writers know the subject they're lampooning. - The stuff that made my eyes roll was on ESPN and in fact written for US audiences .... the attempt at humour was base, the cliches old/outdated and clearly written by someone who hadn't even been to the country. I didn't think they were funny even to US audiences. And I didn't care to comment until I had to read a few articles with exactly the same jokes as the last one. "Much ado abooot nothing hahahahaha". Tim O'Reilly was starting to make his employer look like an idiot. Anyways, i don't mean to get petty but the rest of the media did parody/humour so much better.... and they clearly knew something about the object of their ridicule. My suggestions for ESPN's next critique: - Nickelback? How could Canada's most valuable cultural export be excluded from the Games opening ceremonies? That was a travesty. i would love to have seen them sing the national anthem and play the same guitar riffs as used in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR SONGS - Celine Dion? Easy target. So many possibilities there! - Skeleton - Didn't ESPN actually invent half of these stupid winter Olympics sports so they could market the X-games and create ESPN4? What's next? 6 man luge? Or maybe people can slide down the bobsled run sideways? or upside down face up? That will definitely keep the excitement going. - An Olympics for White people - Not a single person has mentioned the fact that the Winter Olympics are well funded so that white people can win medals again. If blacks/latinos start making more inroads into Winter Sports than the odd comedic one (e.g., Jamaican Bobsled team), I'll bet the IOC will conspire to raise the price of skis just so minorities can't afford to compete.... just like what they did with the triathlon and carbon fiber bikes. etc etc etc.
