What common experiences do you think shape our identity as Eurasians?
Modified subject to a more relevant matter.

You definitely share a similar vision in the fact you relate with other minorities, it's strange but few of us here actually do but living in more homogenous countries like us certainly helps. Just like you, I've been an immigrant at one point in my life and my parents both were as well, twice in their cases.
I understand what you mean about being arrogant about it. As for me, I rarely mention my racial background in a conversation in spite of my schizophrenic relation of love-hate with the concept which should normally make it appealing to talk of.
Finally, beyond the initial pleasant surprise of meeting another EA, our apparent differences are sometimes too big to be bridged immediately. However if you get to meet EA-aware ones with some time and intimacy, you'll probably see you share a lot in common, analogous to other minorities, the complex EA experience, especially if you grew up in a similar ethnic environment as them (White, Asian, diverse, EA).

I admit not thinking EA have much in common, the umbrella Eurasian term recovering so many different realities. What do Maggie Q and us here, really share?

Apparently, we all have our own interpretation of what ties us, probably because of very different and singular EA experiences. To answer you chineseeyes, even if not the best possible mindset, I'd still take the brainless pride over the shame or rejection many of us go through.

I'm pleasantly surprised I constantly run into Eurasians around the city. I went to a skunky bar last week and there were two of them sitting at the counter, after a couple of prolonged stares I decided to go up to them, I introduced myself next thing you know we spent the entire night talking about our respective lives, frankly, it's the first time I ever deeply bonded with other EAs, it was totally random, not an arranged meet. Some of their anecdotes nearly killed me with laughter, surrealist yet so familiar at the same time.
I've experienced a similar empathy for some members here in the past only this is a virtual relationship because of distance etc. Nevertheless even if our personal lives differ alot there are still many things we all go through that makes up the experience of being Eurasian regardless of our ethnic mixes, location, social status or personalities. It all boils down to this experience of awareness, struggling with non-receptive societies, embracing the world and our own diversity.

I remember a time when conceitedness was big among Eurasians, guess it was more of a fad than a common trend.

Asian parents tend to be stricter with their offspring but I don't think they are crazier than Caucasians. The more I compare the least common objective characteristics I find, the only thing I'm sure is that we have a similar way of relating to the rest of the world which is very distinct from other ethnic groups.

Well, does that mean that those of us who do not have Asian mothers don't have crazy parents? I think most mothers go crazy at some point. This is what mothers do.

Although the city is mostly influenced by Europeans and remain essentially NA, there are dozens other cultures to experiment if you're willing to do the effort and that's quite unique.
My mother is not Asian and I can assure you she doesn't need that to turn nuts from time to time.
