i'd be upset that i wasn't told, but as long as it's in the past, they're disease free and mentally/emotionally stable, why end it if this person is as good as you say? and what's with all the 'if your spouse were a jailbird/prostitute/leper/what have you' threads?

Everyone has a past. As long as it's the past I'd be fine with it.

I don't think this one would be cool with me. this is a choice. and it signals poor character to me. Now if it was a forced thing... well, we could talk.

Personally for myself I'd have a huge problem with it considering morals and how one values themselves.. To me it seems way too desperate and I don't care how desperate you get, you can always work at McDonalds or something stupid like that. Stripping or being a prostitute is not appropriate and no where near an intelligent decision. I wouldn't fall for someone like that in the first place. God I'd feel so dirty and just as;dljf;alskdjfasdf

It all depends on the woman...basically. If you can trust them than you trust them. If you have a commonality or know her sit. than that's it. She's a good long term if she's got the cultural race perspective like yourself. But don't be fooled there's a lot of hanky panky going on all over. That's the way of the "times."

Honestly, it'd be fine with me, but I guess I'm more open-minded than average.
Curlytop, I totally hear you. I don't see any difference between a woman sleeping her way to the top and a woman just trying to make a living. But I think the latter is more honest.
Just as a general response, the sex trade is a very touchy issue with me. I have no problem with general sex workers, however, the global sex trade is such a corrupt, vile thing. I find human traffickers to be repugnant non-human things who should be flayed alive and made to watch as their own genitals are set on fire. Same with most pimps.
StrangeMagic, while I can see where you coming from, no, not everyone can support themselves working a minimum wage job. Especially if it looks like they'll be trapped in it long term. The debt I've already accumulated in college alone has made me come close to considering it and penguinopolipitese I don't consider myself to be of poor character, just nearly $100,000 in debt. Having three minimum wage jobs probably would barely come close to covering my monthly repayment installments, rent, taxes, groceries and god forbid my car insurance premiums, nevermind that most minimum wage jobs don't provide health insurance. For people who are going it alone, this is often the kind of thing they face if they want to get their education. Whatever you may feel about sex work of any kind, you can't deny it makes bank. While it may not be something that you are personally willing to do or view in anything but an amoral light, I don't think there's actually anything morally wrong with the consensual sex trade.
It's a running joke that sex workers should be paid as least as much as therapists, because they do the same job and much more thouroughly.
Do I think prostitution should be legalized? Yes. Why? So it can be regulated. So it would require a license to practice sex work for a certain number of years--upon renewal, if you fail your health tests (for drug use, etc.) then you can't legally operate as a sex worker. So that then can form unions and afford health plans and have health standards and better care for themselves. So that crack-whores wouldn't be able to feed their drug habits and maybe finally be driven to get help. So that they can get benfits and save up to finish their education if they don't want to do it forever (most don't--and no one can).
The sex trade is the oldest profession in the world and it will never go away. However, if it's at least regulated, people know they have a safe place to go and get their rocks off. Would you rather trust someone from a licensed brothel, or some chick off the street? It's not unlike the high-end call girl services available now, but taxed and with regular inspections.
If my spouse has put that life behind them, kids or not, then more power to them.

P.S. - What would you say about dominatrixes? I know a number of girls who do that now, and their clients aren't even allowed to touch them (most of the time, and when they do that's just to lick their shoes). They're not even especially weird or off-putting people (not outsdie the office anyway). They wouldn't stand out at a grocery store, so if you think about it, really you never know until you ask.
So, does your former girlfriend's having kicked a bunch of men around and tied them up still count?

I'd be upset they felt the need to hide it from me 'cause it means they don't trust me... like they think my love would be conditional - like they don't feel safe or feel the need to hide things about themself But you kinda feel special 'cause you don't have to pay whereas everyone else did ;D If I found out, I'd encourage them to be more open with me... and not so scared 'come as you are... that's how i want you'

On a slightly more serious note, this a really good blog I've come across lately, written by a girl in New York City who is pretty much in the situation I've described and has taken to sex work on the side to make her living. It's weird for me to read it since she's only about a year younger than I am (sounds like she's about a junior in college, though I could be wrong, I'm just guessing by the entry dates), but she's a very intelligent girl. She definitely has her issues, but it's an honest window into a life that a lot of girls lead, and about her clients. I think it's good to get a perspective that doesn't involve assumptions of drug dependency and/or Julia Roberts. Obviously NSFW, but there're no pictures, so maybe you can just browse through it over the holiday weekend: collegecallgirl.blogspot.com/

I think marrying a whore (either for money or a girl who slept around a lot) is one of those things that entitles a man to some guilt-free extra fun when he hits his peak years and she should be understanding so as to be merely a whore and not a stupid whore. If she objects, he needs to pimp-hand her and let her know what's really up.
