Allow me to clarify my question.
There are many articles circulating about the Eurasian "look" being hot in Asia. I read it had began in Japan in the 80s, with a prominent nose and wide rounded eyes being two of the desirable traits (to understand what I mean, just look up any famous Japanese models). Some asian countries are even using Eurasians as their representatives in the Miss World pageants which has led to internal controversy.
As I grew, I eventually began to believe there was some novelty about being half asian (which simply fed my starving ego). But is this all just a FAD?
As Globalization progresses and cultures begin to mix more and more, will being mixed become the norm and being "pure" the hot look because it is becoming more and more rare?
It may take generations upon generations for this to become reality, but what do you think?

there s no such thing as racial purity in the first place and "races" come and go. the egyptians from antiquity completely disappeared from the face of the earth and today s egyptians have nothing to do with their "ancestors" (ethnically speaking). if you look in the VERY distant future, you ll have races coming and going but i doubt there ll ever be a mix majority of people who ll end up being the more common race. if it were the case people would have to be equally mixed from all possible ethnicities. so...nope.

Good point.
But there are those who would assert they are as pure to their heritage (chinese who only marry chinese, jewish who only marry jewish) as they could HOPE to be, and that's the context in which I base my question :-)

Emm ...I think anything unique can be a FAD. and yes once theres too many mixed ppl they wont be considered unique anymore thus they cease being THE fad. I hope this is not feeding YOUR ego coz truthfully it is quite discusting.

To be brutally honest, if you are an EA and can take advantage of your multi-ethnic or multi-cultural background for a job or a career opportunity in Asia or elsewhere, then I say, "go for it!" It certainly can't be worse than the monoracials who use their ethnicities to their own advantages - the best example being all these phony p.c., closet-racist, white Americans who shamelessly take full advantage of their white privilege all the while denying it.

I dont think its a fad, im sure most people dont really care whether or not someone is mixed, maybe they might be curious to find out the mix, but then other than that, dont think its a big deal.
And with the whole beauty myth - it conviniently marginalizes the presence of us uggo's ;D

Thank you! This is what I was getting after. As Hapalicious pointed out, there really is no such thing as "pure" these days. However it is a social reality that people make a more significant distinction between, say, a Filipino / Hispanic mix (VERY common in the Philippines due to the 100 yr. Spanish occupation) and a Chinese/Black or Japanese/Irish mix. I have done a fair amount of reading that suggests that people of EA mixed decent are being sought after in the entertainment industry in Asia for -jobs- in great numbers. For example, Jessica Michibata and her sister as Peach John models in Japan, MTV Asia Video Jockeys, Leah Dizon who never spoke a word of Japanese being made into a Japanese pop star, Miss Asia Pageant contestants with blue eyes... People would seek this because the EA look is being deemed the "hot look" or that they can relate to a more diverse demographic. I'm just asking if anyone agrees how silly this short lived reality (and yes, it is a reality) is, because as time goes on, it is only inevitable there will be more and more mixed and less and less "pure" (pure in my context for my purposes, sorry hapalicious :-) people. P.S. Regarding my disgusting ego - I am told about it daily by my best female friend! It's all in good fun, not that I'm sure I unleashed it in this post :-)

Mmm, yes I think being a 'pure beauty' (quite literally ethnically speaking) will make you more desired in the future. Previously, I could never spot EAs and thought they were extremely rare but now I see them springing up everywhere and to be honest, many are a disappointment - seeing as they are 'meant' to be highly attractive, culturally well-rounded etc.
Don't know if anyone has watched the movie/anime 'NANA' (v popular in Japan) but two of the main characters - both in rival bands are thought of as to be very attractive. The other characters think they are full Japanese but question their ethnicity because 'it's not possible for them to be have such attractive features' (looking more Asian if you're an EA is heavily desired in Asia especially for stars) and I remember one episode the singer Reira (played by EA Olivia Lufkin) starts by saying, 'I am half' and progresses to tell how she has to hide her half American roots or she'd be thought of as a fake.
I'm actually seeing many downsides to being EA. At one point, my ego was pretty damn huge but trying to manage a full Asian boyfriend this year for two months was painful as his friends would always make 'guai-lo' (white person) jokes and act incredibly ignorant and patronising to me due to my looks, body shape etc. I feel more sympathetic and attatched to my Asian side but when even they start to 'reject' you, that's when the cliched 'identity crisis' kicks in.

I don't think that being EA is the 'in-thing' or a fad. People of mixed races have always provoked the curiosity others. I think the curiosity being more of physical appearance than anything at first. But even if this was all a fad, its not like we can help who we are Use it to advantage yourself if you can! 'Pure' will be around for a long time yet, but 'mixed' is becoming more common to see (world is not getting any larger, but the number of people in it is increasing!)

of course it's a fad. a few generations back, ea's were looked as mutts, who were kids of whores who screwed sailors.
Now, EA's are looked upon the kids of aristocrats and successful business people.
This seems to be more emphasized in Asia from what the posters here have been saying.

We basically become white people in Asia and Asian people in the US! :-D Seriously though, it seems that EA's lives improve drastically when they move to Asia. I'm interested.

*and i m not lying, someone actually did say that and repeated it when i ignored the stupid comment. Sounds like the midwest to me. I can't stand when people repeat the stupidest things, over and over. Or when you ask them a question and they answer a different question you never asked. They'll repeat the same damn answer, even if the question really needs to be answered for work or school. Rephrase the question: they'll give you the same damned answer. They've no grasp of perception, they're pathetic. I cannot stand American hillbillies. I had to grow up among them from 9 years old to 18, and now, only for my family, I'm living among them again. ARRGG! Morons! You have my most sincere condolences, please don't let them get you down.

Aw sorry.. you would probably do better in a larger town, or at at least in a state that's more socially progressive (like Minnesota or Ontario). I've stopped by some small towns in the U.S. and most people were really friendly. But I'd imagine staking out a life there would be an entirely different challenge.
