Wow, I do need some of those whitening cream, make it triple the power.
In reality, my family criticizes me when I don't get enough sun, and look too pale. Well, what can you expect after hibernating during the several gruelling months of winter?

HAHAHAHAHA I LOVE YOU DAD! <33 You girls are making fun of the old man, aren't you? Shame on you. It isn't nice picking on old people. We can't fight back. And it upsets our tummy.

Skin lighteners & those eyelid flippers really offend me. I don't understand why this world is so hung up on this "white standard of beauty."
A few years ago, I was in a small karaoke bar in the Philippines, and a filipina girl dressed as a hooker from the 80's, complete with a scrunchie and side ponytail, pleated acidwash denim miniskirt, and ruffled socks with high heels just thought she was the coolest person in the place because she was with a balding, middle-aged, sloppy, overweight caucasian man. The sad thing is, all the women in the joint were staring at her with envy!

^ Do whites really have the monopoly on double-eyelids? Isn't it a bit off to automatically call it a "white" trait?
Somehow I manage to be the palest out of my entire family, so people are always telling me I need some "healthy" color.
Someone once said this to me, and I'm not saying I believe it, but it's food for thought: "I think the ideal skin color must be a light caramel/mocha. Darker people lighten their skin to it, lighter people darken their skin to it. It's like we all want this middle ground."

Wait, if having fair skin is desired so much in Asia, why is Japan witnessing a complete turn around? Last time I went, ALL the young girls had the skin colour I spent the whole summer trying to attain. Personally, I think deep, dark tans are very healthy looking on girls but fair men can look slightly effeminate yet in a very sexy way..

Well, no I suppose not, but I've never seen a white person that didn't have a double-eyelid, whereas Asians can go either way. Anyway, I don't see why everyone just doesn't embrace the unique beauty of their ethnicity.

As far as I know, this is a pretty big issue in Africa as well.
My skin tone changes dramatically over the year. Super tanned in the summers and then paled to a fair shade in the winter. I've never particularly tried to change it all that much other than to make sure I got a base tan before the summer started.

Personally, I think deep, dark tans are very healthy looking on girls but fair men can look slightly effeminate yet in a very sexy way.. When I was there, only the cute kooky girls had those fake tans.. My wonderful generalisation is that most Asian countries attribute getting darker with spending too much time in the sun which means you don't work in the office and are therefore poor.. Whereas the west likes to think of the sun as leisure....

Yeah, some of the young japanese girls go for the tan look. Some darker than others! However, when it comes time for omiai, you bet your a** they'll be back to being pale!
When my aunt saw me after a few years of midwest winters, she gushed about how much I finally looked like my mother! I guess the California tan I'd had all my life had finally faded to the point that she was willing to admit a familial resemblence!

I found that a lot of culture like their women white. It's like a purity thing...so I think, maybe like mother's milk..which is white. Maybe the males are attracted to the white light. Think about if the sun's light would reflect on their skin. Make them more shiny and outstanding if they didn't have any melanin. They would radiate....oh I'm getting carried away.
