I think the misunderstanding was created with your first post: Meanwhile, in school, I'm always identified by my race, first and foremost. No matter how much I share the thinking, interests, or sense of humor as the most populous race in this country, I can sense people look at me as a representative of my people first and foremost. The distance between me and the predominant race is created on both ends, in a downward spiral. They look at me through their stereotypes and see what they want to see. And I see a people who doesn't understand that I'm not a race - I'm an individual. What you said here is basically what every non-white person goes through if they live in a white country. That doesn't necessarily mean you know exactly how EA's feel. At least you are identified by "your" race. We are identified by something that is just a part of us ( just our white or asian side ) or something we are not at all ( for example: hispanic, turkish, Italian ). But I agree with Zoff and there are probably certain similarities between your experiences and our experiences.

@dynamikan Do people ask if you're (or tell you look) Filipino, Thai, Viet, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Cambodian, Laotian, Nepalese, Polynesian, New Zealander, Brazilian, Venezuelan, Colombian, Paraguaya, Uruguya, Argentinian, Chilean, Ecuadoran, Bolovian, Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Guatemalan, Aleutian, Native-American, Turkish, Afghani, Russian, Siberian, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Portugese, Czech, Bosnian, black, Uzbek, Tatar, Iranian, and Lithuanian all in a period of 5 years? Now do those Filos think you look Latino? Do the Koreans think you look Malaysian? Do Indonesians think you look European? Do Tatars think you look Turk? Do Turks think you look Hawaiian? Do Viets think you look white? Do Mexicans think you look Chinese? Do blacks think you look Korean? Do Iranians think you look Brazilian? Do people of your ancestry think you DON"T look like them....at all? If your experiences are above, then go ahead claim you feel the same. Otherwise go get plastic surgery so you can REALLY find out how many EAs feel. So are you ethnic Polish? You look Polish? Dynamikin you ARE NOT full Asian. You can't be. You're lying, I've never seen an Asian that looks like you. Why are you ashamed? Admit you're mixed. Why lie? I have a mixed boyfriend. He doesn't lie. Why do you? I've dated lots of mixed people and they all looked like you. I can tell the differences in the races. I can tell if someone is not telling the truth because I can just tell. C'mon you can't pass as full Asian. Who do you think you're fooling? ^If that is what you go through in life, then yeah we can talk. If this is you, then yeah you feel the same as a lot of halfies. Those are questions I ask MYSELF on a daily basis, Ethel; not only what I look like, but who AM I? As for other people, they generally stink at guessing my parent's origins. The less politically correct WILL make it into a conversation piece. But I meet lots of politically correct "polite" people on a daily basis. The root intention of their question is that they want to categorize me, ethnically. They want to save the trouble of getting to know me by drawing on stereotypes from my answers.

^Thanks. That was exactly the point I was also trying to make Dynamicken, like I said: You go through the same thing as many non-whites who live in predominantly white countries. What is your "special bond" with eurasians? Are you mistaken for a race or ethnicity that is not even close to your real ethnic background?

All of us feel the same things in our hearts. All of us want to be happy in life. The ingredients might be different but the flavour is the same. Lust is Lust. Loneliness is Loneliness. Love is Love

Whites go through the same thing as Asians: weight issues, falling in love, illness, bad skin, schoolwork, shyness, laughter, unemployment, ugly feet. So yes we CAN all feel the same but there are just some things that others can't understand being EA, white, black, Asian, Muslim, Jew, etc. Amen, sistah. --We also have a special bond that I'm sure most monoracials don't have simply because there are so many of you and so few of us.

I may be a first-generation Asian living in the US. I might be an American living in an Asian country. That's not important. My parents, though they are of the same race, are different as night and day. One regularly complains to me about the other. Meanwhile, in school, I'm always identified by my race, first and foremost. "But no, you don't understand." I do. I probably share more experience with a hapa than you would like to admit. But even the hapa would never see it that way. And this only applies to cocky among you - no, you are not any hotter than the pure races. Hey, well done genius, you've just understood that one of our problem was to be a minority. But contrarily to you, lucky regular phenotype dude, we can't even walk in the street without being pointed as different. Can't beat us on this, lulz. May your wrath be transformed into an interesting topic.

Everytime I go back to Malaysia. The stewedess never fail to greet "Welcome to Malaysia" just when I thought Ive arrived to my home country. Then ofc next the money changer will ask me in English how much I would like to change which I always love to see their facial suprise when reply with "Seratus ribu dalam seratus seratus boleh"
Then ofc when bargaining taxis fare in KL. I always use malay top with northern slang. That should keep them from cheating me like they do the tourists. heh

I think everybody could feel something similar, but in slightly different ways. A fat, coloured, ugly, bimbo, stupid, or just "different" person will be looked upon with some kind of reaction, be it negative or positive. But I guess mostly negative?
We strive to "fit in" usually. Its the boring truth right? Fighting against conformity, or whatever we should call it.
I dont feel that my race is the center of attention for other people, but there are also other things about me that makes me different, like my odd personality? hehe. I dont like to stand out either, its embarrassing. It takes a hard wired tough person to handle that!

Mr. Zoff, and perhaps Ragnar, are the only respondents who demonstrate any real understanding of what I mean.
And who is the person that theorized a Eurasian gal dumped me? It is for this reason that I said Eurasians are not particularly hot. Lots of ego there.

I understand exactly what you mean (and I think the others do too for the most part, do you understand what they mean though?), but I think you still need to explain why you came to this site just to say that. Are you trying to fit in with us or are you saying that this site has no reason to exist?
