i've noticed my grandparents were always making comments about "people of colour" and always blaming peoples mistakes on their race. if someone did something wrong while driving my grandpa would look at them and say "yup chinese"
today when i was with my grandpa in the car and we were driving out of a plaza a car was in the middle of the road blocking the exit out. two asian guys were talking near the car and one was on a bike. my grandpa was like "only a chinese would do that". he didn't know then that the car had broken down (or was having some problems) and the man was gona push his car for him. while he drove around the car to get out he yelled out the window "ching chang wah"
i was just in shock that he'd acutally do that. although i always kinda knew he thought white people were better. i don't know what to think... he's never really said anything about my dad (he's filipino) directly. i think he;s just said that filipinos are usually poor. has anyone else dealt with racist family? i'm sure many people have much worse and one side maybe disowned their children for marrying out of the race but i'm still shocked.

Yea. I agree. That kind of behaviour disgusts me. I mean, I don't want to offend you, but I would have felt offended if one of my grandparents had said something like that. Unfortunately some ppl just think like that and it can be difficult to change.

my stupid brother might as well be full white and join the KKK. The question is, would KKK accept him?

my stupid brother might as well be full white and join the KKK. The question is, would KKK accept him? it's so funny because he looks very asian and he's all like "PRO WHITE! asians suck!" basically it's like it doesn't even count that i have an EA brother.. he might as well be white

oh my god, I almost peed myself after reading that. So funny! I mean yeah, not funny but still...
We should hook your grandpa up with my grandma. It'd be a match made in heaven.
I'm surprised he'd make that a public comment though. In the old days my dad would actually chase down people that made comments like that. Most of my familial racism is done under the breath.

My relatives also have something against black people.. I mean I would get beat up if I ever go out with a black girl.. That's kinda sad, but true.. The cliche is, "anything, but black". I think that racist comments/attitudes comes from uneducated peole, because they see things simplified. I've meet some black guys who I just want to strangle, but there are those who are my close friends, awesome personality and come from educated family. If you look at these observations they don't fit in they are on the opposite side of the spectrum, so I see that race doesnt have any bearing on someone's attitudes. We must really think our logic because stereotype and the media doesn't really portray real life and no matter how we dismiss it, it does affect how we think..

My family was a racist family.
My (Chinese-American) father was even fired from his job once for making anti-n*gg*r comments. And he publicly expressed his anti-Korean sentiments and told me that I can marry anyone but a black or Korean.
My EA brother frequently expressed hate and rage over n*gg*rs (he was living with either my father or mother in majority black neigbborhoods) and avoided Asians at all costs, and denounced them if they were not "American" enough. I think of him as a white person similar to dolcedolce. We don't see eye to eye on many issues.
My Caucasian mother was never blatantly racist like that, but she did have her way of showing how she felt that white people were superior. But her parents in the Deep South ¡V they not only treated blacks like they had no soul, but called *Orientals* heathens and preached to me how race mixing was a sin. My maternal grandmother even read me verses from the Bible how God condemned inter-racial mixing. It upset me so much as a child that I thought I had to kill myself by bleeding to death to get rid of my tainted blood.
I had to get out of there, and that is exactly what I did.

yah, ppl from the older generation usually have strong view on race... they sometimes spew racist comments here and there, but most of it's in good jest... i don't take it too seriously, unless the comments are really offensive

Hey Dolce, I feel for ya! I do.
I have a similar thread going about my own racist experiences within my family. Both my white and Filipino families were very against my marriage to a half black/half white man. Nevermind that he was very lightskinned and was mixed, they just saw him as black.
I've been called every name under the book from my family and even other Asians I don't even know....the best ones being whore...etc.
Well, I am pregnant now and hoping my family will come around. Surprisingly my father is starting to accept my husband, sent us a gift certifcate to babies' R' Us. While my filipino mother won't even talk to me.
And my own sisters....well, one is very accepting(thank goodness for her support!) but my other sister might as well join the KKK (sort of shares the same attitude as your brother!) she can't stand other Asians and looks down on blacks.
I think it will still take many generations for people to get over this color problem. I've learned that just because a family is interracial doesn't mean that the family is free from prejudice against other people.

you guys have some weird families...
First of all, interracial mixing is not wrong or even against the bible. There are prophets who married outside their country which mean outside their race and I think some prominent guy in the bible married an ethiopian woman..I can remember what it is..Anyways, I think it has something to do with the history of racism in the south. Personally, I thik that southern peolple are changing as well. It's good that you got out of that place. Did you grew up in a poor neighborhood or family? I can't believe that woman say that to you..I mean it crazy to tell a kid something like that. I don't think they really believe on what they are saying.. This kind of behavior are more frequent with poor families because it gives them purpose and something to think about other the real problems thats facing them. Good thing you are OK!

It upset me so much as a child that I thought I had to kill myself by bleeding to death to get rid of my tainted blood. oh my god. that's scary. is that stuff in the bible acutally there? nmffnurse, i'm sorry your parents dont except your husband. i hope they change their mind. i think my parents will be similar.. even though my mom married an asian she still says racist things about non filipino asians.. and i think she'll freak out if i married someone that was say.. chinese. same w/ my grandparents.. with my dad i don't know.. he has an idea that all black people are full of swearing, violence etc because of rap music..
