.. he has an idea that all black people are full of swearing, violence etc because of rap music.. [/quote] yeah, that's what most Asians here in Australia think of black people. There's hardly any African-Amercian ppl here in Australia, so what they see on TV (which is mostly American) reinforces their opinions.

My aunt Di's, sister, Lin, married a black man, however, my aunt and uncle didn't know he was black. The thought that he was black crossed their mind but weren't sure because Lin never outright said it. They told me his name and I told them it was very likely he was African.
My auntie and uncle have one son, 5 years old. Lin and her husband came to visit us. Just before they were to arrive, I was hanging out with them and their son said, "I don't like black people, right Mommy?" I was shocked considering Lin's husband was about to visit and told him that he can't say that and that it was wrong. She looked at me and then said to her son, "No, we like black people, remember okay?"
The kid is so sweet and smart and it's really upsetting knowing that his parents are passing on racism. I've talked to him in private about it but I'm worried it's too late.
They avoided their brother-in-law when he visited. He was such an intelligent man - he even helped me with my boyfriend woes... they totally missed out on knowing a great person.
When I was little my bestfriend was black and my uncle greatly disapproved of her. He even threw out my 'Stop Racism' button I received from school.

First of all, interracial mixing is not wrong or even against the bible. Well, I think you are preaching to the choir, but people in the Theocratic states of America use the Bible to justify all sorts of stuff, including slavery, lynching, warfare, etc. You see, if n**gg*rs had no soul and *Orientals* (sic) are heathens, then they are either not really human, or at least savages, so anything you do to them is OK with God. My grandmother told me how good her *stock* was, and how she was so upset that it had been tainted with heathen blood. There are certain verses in the Bible instructing certain tribes not to marry each other, and she extrapolated that to mean races. I find the USA to be that way in general -- using the Bible to justify all sorts of heinous behavior, including racism.

I've seen it on both sides of my family. My mother told me at a very young age that I should marry White or Japanese. Other Asians were not good enough, and when she knew I was dating a Chinese girl, she had a s*** fit. When I dated a White girl who had some Cherokee blood in her making her skin more olive looking, she said she didn't look white enough.
On my White side, it's a little less pronounced, but my grandmother always refers to Asians as "those strange Orientals" and the "colored people" for blacks. She's never come out and told me either way, but her eyes lit up when I told her I was dating a French girl, but never when I was dating an Asian one.
My mother was all for me marrying the French girls I dated, even though she had no idea what any of them looked like.
However, both sides would freak if they knew I dated a black girl once. So sad, because she was one of the funnest, most outgoing, and prettiest girls I knew.

I find the USA to be that way in general -- using the Bible to justify all sorts of heinous behavior, including racism. I do agree that some people use religion for the wrong reasons, slavery, oppression, prejudice now currently terrorism. People cannot marry certain tribes in the bible because they worship false and pagan gods. It has nothing to do with race. Even before christ (bc), a spaniard (descended from visigoths) is different from a roman and considered from a different race. However, there are those who realize that its wrong like the guy from Spain Bartolome de las casas (spanish conquistadores) who insisted that indios have soul and have rights. I don't think God punish you for not knowing who he is, but he can punish you if you know the truth and you deny or purposely went against it. If you asked me, I believed that organized religion is full of s***! I mean I'm Roman Catholic. Yes, I do believe in God and the Christian teaching , but these people are probably one of the most narrow minded people. It's either right or wrong and there's no shade of gray. Ok, I do agree that gay people, lesbian etc. should have the rights to marry, because that's their decision. I don't think its wrong , its probably more biological/genetic than anything else. I mean who would subject themselves to discrimination? I think Americans are homophobic compare to asian countries kinda ironic, because were suppose to be more advance in thinking. I'm not about to be God and judge them. Actually, if there's someone wrong it would be the nation that regulates behavior and tell people what to do. that's restricting and taking away people's options. Imagine a world that commiting a sin is a crime. very bad! In reality, theres probably more mixing happening during the Roman Empire from North Africa, Sub Saharan Africa, India, Central Asia, the Balkans, Western and Eastern Europe, China's Western Province etc. Back Then being a slave, doesn't have anything to do with the color of you skin. It has something to do if you are captured by the enemy during battle, where they spared your life in battle and you are sold as a slave.

Blarg. These stories piss me off. You'd think Eurasian families would generally have an open mind, because obviously, people from those families crossed the color line and married each other. I have no direct white relatives, but my people in my family are separated into two groups - the Asian mixes and the Eurasian mixes. All the Eurasians in the family (most are my cousins) tell me I should marry a white guy and all the Asians tell me I should marry an Asian person. I wonder what they'd say if I married a black guy, since they all dislike blacks. They won't say anything to their faces, but they think black is ugly, filthy, and animalistic. One of my EA cousins who's lived in China all her life asked me if black people live like animals. She didn't seem to understand the fact that blacks here in the US walk and talk and live like everyone else. I was pissed that she would ask such questions, but then again, blacks are looked down upon in Asian countries. It has a lot to do with that colonial mentality: white is beautiful. My EA relatives do think that they're better than your average Asians because they are light skinned and have European looks. I just think such mentality is full of crap.
Thankfully, my mother is very understanding. She said I have to marry for love, not for anything else. I know that deep down inside, she would prefer it if I married an Asian guy, but she'll settle for whatever, as long as I'm happy. My dad is extremely racist against blacks and browns. Unless I marry an Asian guy or a white guy, he'll be on my case for the rest of my life. He doesn't think that blacks and browns are capable of accepting good education and getting a good job and treat their wives well. He thinks most blacks and browns are wife beating drug addicts. Then again, he's a doctor and that's all he sees all day long in a hospital. I was there one day with him and for the entire day, all of his patients were 14, 15 year old pregnant black girls with scars and bruises and DOed black guys with gunshot wounds. The hospital is in the bad part of the town so. I kind of wish that my dad would change his mind because not all black people are like that, but that's all he sees all day long. I doubt I can change his mind. I've yelled at him many times that blacks are human beings too, but he just won't say anything back and continue to make racist comments again.

How your dad feels Aiko, is how my mom feels! My mother has a Filipinia friend whose daughter got pregnant by a black guy when she was 17, he ended up beating her and leaving her penniless. Ever since then my mom feels that all blacks are like this. Never mind that I got married at 27 to a well-educated black man, to her he's still a thug in her mind! My own mom thinks all blacks are on drugs...it's so funny since my own black husband won't even touch liquor and hates the smell of cigarattes. Heck, one time when we were just dating I was smoking some 420 at a party with some girlfriends. He came onto the patio and caught us. He was so upset with me he walked out. That's how against drugs he is. I mean, it was only weed! Sad that he has to be compared to other people's misconception of blacks. He treats me well, loves me to death, does everything I ask, even more so now that I am pregnant(and I am taking full advantage of the fact!) ...in fact I am the bossy one in the relationship! Hopefully soon my mom will see the error of her ways and accept my husband and coming grandchild back into the family fold despite how "black" they are.

God I hope your little one will change their minds. How can anybody resist little babies? My maternal grandma couldn't tolerate my dad at first, then I came along and everyone started to get along with each other.

My family was a racist family. My (Chinese-American) father was even fired from his job once for making anti-n*gg*r comments. And he publicly expressed his anti-Korean sentiments and told me that I can marry anyone but a black or Korean. My EA brother frequently expressed hate and rage over n*gg*rs (he was living with either my father or mother in majority black neigbborhoods) and avoided Asians at all costs, and denounced them if they were not "American" enough. I think of him as a white person similar to dolcedolce. We don't see eye to eye on many issues. My Caucasian mother was never blatantly racist like that, but she did have her way of showing how she felt that white people were superior. But her parents in the Deep South ¡V they not only treated blacks like they had no soul, but called *Orientals* heathens and preached to me how race mixing was a sin. My maternal grandmother even read me verses from the Bible how God condemned inter-racial mixing. It upset me so much as a child that I thought I had to kill myself by bleeding to death to get rid of my tainted blood. I had to get out of there, and that is exactly what I did.

Hopefully soon my mom will see the error of her ways and accept my husband and coming grandchild back into the family fold despite how "black" they are. It still boggles my mind that your mom's trippin over your husband's race despite the fact that he's *more than half white*. My family's got their prejudices against blacks too but to a lesser extent, like they would still be fine with it if I were to be with a mulatto. I'm imagining a baby that is roughly 1/4black1/4asian1/2white, and it sounds like an awesome mix. Best of luck to you. God I hope your little one will change their minds. How can anybody resist little babies? My maternal grandma couldn't tolerate my dad at first, then I came along and everyone started to get along with each other. My paternal side of the family(particularly my grandma) disliked my mom from the get-go. They wanted my dad to be with a full asian woman. There was this asian woman who had recently arrived in the US that they wanted for my dad, and they wanted her to live with my parents(knowing that my parents were already married at the time too!). obviously my mom wouldn't let that happen and yea, they gave her even more trouble for it. come after I was born…my grandma often made fun of me with my curly hair amongst other things. Needless to say, I still harbor feelings of resentment towards most of that side of the family. Nowadays, meh, I suppose you could say we're civil and interact normally, but we're not exactly close with them. Oh well. Anyhow, a recent incident with my brother(who's extremely race-conscious) really hit a nerve with me. We were on vacation chillin in the car with a few of our cousins and out of nowhere, my bro starts making these racist "jokes" and comments about Mexicans. i didn't wanna make a scene right then and there but afterwards in private, I was like "boy, do I have to wash your mouth out with soap?!". it was embarrassing. First of all, nobody in my family(immediate family anyway) has anything against Mexicans/latinos whatsoever. My parents would be perfectly cool with it if I were to be with a Mexican/latino guy for instance. and we have *never ever* spoken derogatively about them in the past. So my bro certainly didn't get any of that from us. We're assuming he's been hangin around too much with one of his kid "friends" and it's rubbed off on him. Granted he didn't know any better(as I guess he thought it was a "cool" thing to say or whatever) and my parents and I have had a talk with him about this, but I'm betting folks probably get the impression we must diss on Mexicans a whole lot for my younger bro to be doing so .

My cousin's EA daughter (1/2 Chinese, 1/2 Irish) had a boy about 2 years ago with a black guy with Louisiana creole origins (approx. 3/4 black, 1/4 French) which means her boy is approx. 3/8 black, 3/8 white, 1/4 Asian. For some reason, I think his dad has more European features then his boy. I have seen kids of an Asian and Mulatto parent that interesting could pass as EA.
