At a party the other day I was explaining my ethnicity to people; that my dad's philipino and my mom's scandinavian-american.
Apparently they had this preconception that almost all mixed asian marriages that they've heard of are made up of caucasian fathers with an asian mother.
I have no idea how true this is; so I'm doing a little poll to find out.
(edit: I didn't finish this poll-- i meant to include more choices; such as asian/other mixes and EA parents- but I hit enter and it posted! augh!)

My mother's Asian - father, caucasian.
I feel EAs with that ^ reversed are somehow different (to me).

even tho only 9 people have voted, out of all the EAs i know which is quite a lot, all of them have an asian mum except one. it seems to be a lot more common for white men to marry asian women than it is the other way around.

mum is ea, dad is caucasian
My dad was visiting the states and met my mum through one of their mutual friends. My mum was interested but couldn't possibly have the heart to steal him away from his would be wife(during the time he was engaged). Wasn't until years later that they finally ended up in the same place, hit it off once again and before you knew it, out pops me.

it seems to be a lot more common for white men to marry asian women than it is the other way around. with me, it was the other way around. growing up around all our asian/mixed asian family friends(and mind you, there was a large vietnamese community where i was from and had alot of exposure to), everybody who was mixed had asian dads and white/part white moms, myself included. it was only until i started surfing the internet(at about 17/18 years old) that i read about AF/WM relationships supposedly outweighing AM/WF.

we have 2 asian dad/white mom couples in my family and one 1 asian mom/white dad couple. Although I seem to see more asian girl/ white guy couples these days. The split seems to be about 50/50 in general. I did a poll like this a while back and I remembered that the ratio was about 1:1.

Cristóbal, didn't notice that poll; I would've just gone there if I saw it. In my general 'off the street hunch' I also notice more AF/WM couples then AM/WF.. and I mean a LOT more, at least 3:1. But when it comes to producing children it appears to be even; perhaps a tendency towards AF/WM but not overwhelmingly so. Maybe 'showing off' as a mixed couple is more apparent as AF/WM, but has little to do with getting hitched and having kids. Halfbreed: I think EA kids from asian mom tend to look more asian (this is all my generalizing opinion). But as far as the combination producing a sociological difference on the children... I don't think there's any difference at all.

The split seems to be about 50/50 in general. I did a poll like this a while back and I remembered that the ratio was about 1:1. There are 2 things to consider when trying to get a tally of IR couples. First, the latest census shows that WM/AF married couples are more frequent than AM/WF couples by a ratio of about 3:2. But as we see on the streets, it seems like there are way way more WM/AF couples. That is only because a large number of these couples are just dating. I think I read somewhere a long time ago that something like close to 90% of Asian girls, close to marrying age, have dated a White male while only about 20% of Asian guys have dated a White female. So if you take that arbitrary figure into consideration, the ratio is really greater than 8:1[sometimes even close to 20:1]. So the really interesting question is then why is the marriage ratio so close when the dating ratio is so disparate?
