hmm... based on my own viet family i would guess that there are more viet men dating white women than the other way around because vietnamese culture seems much more restrictive towards women than men. again, this is only based on my own family, but it doesn't really surprise me that you know more kids with viet dads than viet moms. hmmm...actually now that i think about it. there is truth to that. the EA friend i talked about previously in this thread who had the Asian father was indeed Vietnamese on her Asian side. Alot of the Vietnamese EAs who have been on here...have Asian fathers? Not that i know many of these people i was around long enough to see them back when i wasnt so frequent on this site ...I think Penguin, jean62, Vietmunda all had Viet fathers too. On top of this my uncles who are 3/4 Viet, 1/4 White...all have Euro wives except for one who married a Chinese lady. Hmph...surely it has to do with them being Vietnamese i guess. Vietnamese women are more likely to marry likewise men than other Asian ethnicities? I know my mother wants me to marry either a Vietnamese man...a Vietnamese EA man or at least someone with understanding of Vietnamese peeps. Which is why i yelp whenever i meet a Viet EA who speaks Vietnamese. haha. ;D

Now that I think about it, my original comment probably applies to older couples moreso than the younger couples now. I'm sure the younger generation of Vietnamese kids are much less traditional and there are plenty of Vietnamese girls dating non-Vietnamese guys. But in my family's case, my dad went away to school in Italy and then met and married my mom. He then moved to Canada with her and a few years later brought his immediate family over to Canada from Viet Nam. I think that he was able to get away with marrying an Italian woman because he was the eldest and then they were of course all grateful to be brought over to Canada. My aunts probably would not have even had the chance to go study abroad to get out of Viet Nam. And if they had come over to Canada and tried to date a white guy I'm sure my uncles would have had something to say about it!

Only makes more sense that those relationships i mentioned are from older generations. And yes...i agree the younger generation are more 'free' to date.

Not that i know many of these people i was around long enough to see them back when i wasnt so frequent on this site ...I think Penguin, jean62, Vietmunda all had Viet fathers too. This is still something not really known, the percentage. In the US the census showed that 75% of EAs have Asian mother. I don't know in Europe, France where I live. for information there are lots more EAs with Asian father on this board than you mention. xriz, sam, deepblue, dadu, hapawalnut, and much more, they are free to confirm.

^Actually i was referring to Vietnamese EAs. I found it was interesting that the majority of Vietnamese EAs on here had a Viet father as opposed to a Viet mother. Those you mentioned...apart from Marie (hapawalnut) i dont think they are part-Vietnamese? I think we can already see the proportion between Asian mothers and Asian fathers is closer than some people might have expected judging from the results of that poll. But i was just speculating that the Vietnamese EAs might have a higher correlation of fathers being the Asian parent than EAs from other Asian ethnicities and that this could possibly be due to a cultural thing. But i have agreed with Xandra that it probably applies more to the older generation.
