I'm half chinese-filipino, and half white and I lived in the Philippines for several years as a child. In a nutshell, when in the US, make sure you live somewhere urban and open-minded, preferably with a variety of cultures, otherwise your kids will be treated like aberrations and outcasts like I have for most of my life. But, no I'm not bitter....

We're in Southern California, so we should be ok in the states. In China/Taiwan, it will be in all the big cities as well Taipei/Shanghai. Do any of you have father's that are quote "fobby" and are vested in their culture?

Do any of you have father's that are quote "fobby" and are vested in their culture? Sorry, I didn't see this. Can you elaborate on "fobby"? I dislike the way it's said by "americans" accultured here. Not even the asians I know use it in a positive sense. Yes, my father (and the rest of our immigrated family) is "vested" in a place most have lived for decades. I don't see what is unusual about it. They may speak with a bit of a bastardized accent (neither here nor there) but habits are most definitely die hard.
