Another thread inspired me to think of creating a thread like this for EAN.
Basically, each week I will upload one r&b song and one hiphop song for the good people of this board to download, just so they can get a taste of what kind of music I like to listen to. (I think this is a good rate for now, because if I add too many, what might happen is barely anyone will listen to what I put up. And I don't want to go at a slower rate because the post activity may die down sooner rather than later).
My favourite genres are r&b and hiphop. This may sound stereotypical and not very diverse to some, however, I'd like to think that I know these genres inside out, and so with the selection of music I choose to put up, hopefully I can show some of you that within these genres are a broad spectrum of styles from really talented artists, whose work can at least be appreciated.
It would be nice to see some honest feedback about the songs I share with you. If you can't stand them, that's totally fine! We're all different people, and that's what makes this world so interesting - so I understand that some may not like what I offer. But this is just an opportunity to expose some of you to music you might not otherwise listen to, and for others, to add some music to your personal collection if you do so happen to enjoy it.

HiphopArtist: Tupac Shakur, featuring Eric Williams Song: Do for love Link: download.yousendit.com/762D2BAB70888637Lyrics: www.lyricsdepot.com/2pac/do-for-love.htmlThis song by rapper Tupac (1971-1996, RIP) features r&b singer Eric Williams on the chorus. 'Do for love' has Tupac rapping about what lengths people will go to, to find love, albeit a false sense of love in many instances. It is one of Tupac's more thought-provoking songs, and has a more relaxed vibe to the beat. R&BArtist: Raheem DeVaughn Song: Soul not for sale Link: download.yousendit.com/D2964732143C21D6Lyrics: www.jazzyjefffreshprince.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10839&pid=163915&mode=threaded&start=This song is by indie/neo-soul artist, Raheem DeVaughn. The beat is produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will Smith's producer back in the day when Will was known as the rapper Fresh Prince. 'Soul not for sale', is an analogy that plays on the saying 'sell your soul'. In this instance, he is referring to soul music, and how he will not change the type of soul music he makes, in order to cater to a broader audience and hence larger sales, if it means he has to make music that he feels doesn't represent what artist he truly is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To download the songs, simply click on the link provided. When the page loads, simply click on the button to start the file transfer. When it's done, you'll be able to listen to it on your computer. Links from the 'yousendit' site expire after 7 days. I posted a link to the lyrics also, because I think it's good for people to look at what the artist has to say ~ LaFace

Wow. I have written somewhere that I am not usually a fan of (mainstream) hip hop and I meant it but you've brought back a lot of nostalgia! I have the Tupac Do for Love. His work is too provocative but a couple that never fail to put a smile on my face are Keep your head up, and classic All eyes on me. Looking forward to checking out Raheem and whatever else is up next week.

^Thanks. I love the genres too, so I originally made this thread to disprove the stereotypes that some people may have of them ^holla!!!!! hope you don't mind if i throw down another smooth one Donell Jones - U know what's up www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-UJGvE8vnQI call this ambient r&b. ur favourite record label too ^WOW! I swear I was listening to Donell Jones as I read this post! That's awesome that you're a fan of his, and you know he's on LaFace. It's hard to find someone that has even heard of him, let alone know some of his record details. As for ambient r&b, yes I love this kind of style, and like the word you've chosen to describe it. edit: I might attempt this thread's aim again. Mods, am I allowed to post links to files, or would you prefer youtube-type links?

R&B/Soul Lyfe Jennings - Crywww.youtube.com/watch?v=sf0rm6YJP1E&feature=relatedLyrics: www.hotlyrics.net/lyrics/L/Lyfe_Jennings/Cry.htmlTaken from the album, Lyfe 268-192The song deals with the stereotype that men do not feel pain and that men do not cry; all from a personal perspective. This youtube link is of Lyfe performing an acoustic version of the track. Very honest song-writing from the heart. ------------------------------------- HipHop Foreign Exchange - Be alrightwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Vszs4PX3ACgLyrics: www.superlyrics.com/lyrics/kGRUkLVH9L@H@Hk/Be_All_Right_Remix_lyrics_by_Foreign_Exchange.htmlTaken from the album, ConnectedThe song deals with troubles that everyday people encounter, and about trying to maintain your focus through life during these testing times. Hiphop with a soulful vibe. --------------------------------------- If you have a few spare minutes, I highly recommend you to listen to these songs. Even if you are not a fan, at least you have expanded your horizons into what modern day r&b and hiphop is about, and not just what the media portrays each to be. I'm always interested to read your thoughts so by all means post any that you have!

^If we're going by rnb, then the only song I can come up with is, 'My favourite girl', by Dave Hollister. He didn't take the production from the song though (I don't think), but rather used the idea from McDonald's track.
However, the hiphop (rap) song, 'Regulate', by Warren G, directly samples the melody to the Michael McDonald track. I only get 5 points though because I had to listen to the youtube link!
I enjoy both songs. The bass guitar sounds so bad ass hahaha.
By the way, in case you were interested, the style of hiphop that Warren G (as well as his contemporaries in Dre, Snoop etc) made around this time (say 1992-1996) was referred to as, 'G Funk', because the production was inspired by throwback funk music just like this.
