A brawl from a few years ago, in one of the toughest sports on earth. Let me just say though, that a brawl like this is not the reason that it is a tough sport. Enjoy www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrBVG4chYvcQuite a number of suspensions and fines were handed out to a number of the players involved. Also, for the record, neither of the teams involved, Essendon Bombers & Hawthorn Hawks, are the team I support. Finally, such brawls don't really occur these days, especially in comparison to the 70's and 80's (and 90's to some degree), since the AFL clamped down on restoring a fairer image. Nevertheless, many people enjoy(ed) watching these for their fiery action. Boys will be boys. Post thoughts

The brawl didn't look so bad. Hockey fights are worse, with sticks, pucks and flying teeth.

^Don't forget that AFL players wear no protective clothing whatsoever, unlike athletes in the NFL, NHL etc

Feel free to post links to NHL brawls, and I will pay you back with some AFL brawls.
Sharing the violent love!
MissWorldTraveller - Yes, I wouldn't play the sport, it is too rough for me, and too often is the cephalic region placed in danger. But I am quite an enthusiastic fan when it comes to watching the sport!
My favourite sports to both play and watch are soccer and tennis.
What type of football are you a Japanese fan of?

youtube.com/watch?v=-WhFYd_ev5kReferee down, referee down!!! In regard to tennis, I'm sorry that Djokovic had to lose. I'm happy that the players I was rooting for (Henin and Federer) won the title.

haha yes I posted that I wanted Djokovic to win, simply because I'd like to see Sampras' record remain intact. Oh well, onto the Australian Open ---------------------------- Ok, I've just watched the video. Is it immature of me to say that I watched that with a smile the entire way through? I actually laughed when the commentator said, "there's a pretty good one at centre right!" A notable difference I observed is that the referees actually physically dive in to try and separate the players. That never happens in the AFL. However, one similarity is that the crowd goes nuts with excitement when they see the fights commence! Here is a video of AFL bumps. youtube.com/watch?v=TiGoqObb0YQ'Bumping', aka hip & shoulders, aka shirtfronts, in AFL, are actually a legal part of the game, as long as contact is not made directly to the head. Still, a lot of players get knocked out and suffer serious injury from them, but it forms part of the beauty of the game. However, illegal bumps render suspensions from matches, the number of matches depending on the severity of the offense.

^Awesome lol. Gee, look at 'Lethal' Leigh Matthews! I love how the video starts off with him, coinciding with the music commencing. Also, Mick Martyn & Wayne Carey getting into it for the Kangaroos. I used to love watching those two as a kid. 'Eye of the tiger' suits the visuals very well. In fact, I believe it is the #1 song to fire someone up for a sports match. By the way, which AFL team do you support? ----------------------------------------- Here is a 'bumps, biffs and brawlers' segment hosted by Rex Hunt. Be warned, some of the acts are dog dirty lol, such as Lethal Leigh breaking a Geelong player's jaw behind the play (he knew what he had done was wrong, so when the Geelong team mates came to fix him up as revenge, he basically just let them smack his face in). It showcases how much the game has changed since the 70's and 80's. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkGLFwuJBI4&mode=related&search=

With regard to "violence", I prefer watching UFC. At least there, you get no suspensions for boxing someone.
