A propos, a proposal for a "fat" tax: www.huffingtonpost.com/john-ridley/forget-a-fat-tax-tax-the_b_283868.htmlI actually like the idea more than taxing fatty foods, as they are not harmful when consumed in moderation (or if consumed in combination with lots of exercise). And it makes sense from a social/public policy point of view. But I don't think anything like that will ever be considered by any government, and I have mixed feelings about whether it is really "just" when you go beyond a purely economic (tax externalities) framework. This is kind of a litmus test for whether we are really serious about prevention, though. Politicians can talk all they want about it - especially about educational campaigns and awareness - but most people don't respond until it hits their pocketbooks. I don't know if cigarette and alcohol taxes have had a huge effect, but I suspect they have reduced consumption more than education (or those scary labels on Canadian cigarette packs).

^ Obesity already has it's drawbacks and penalties. Do we really need a tax? The stick approach has already be exhausted. What people need is some help (and carrots free of charge. The focus should be on morbid obesity. The health risks associated with being overweight or slightly obese is dependent upon environment. I believe that your ideal body mass index is personal or unique to your biology/genetics.

Seriously though. If I was really fat, I would seriously do something about it. I don't understand people who are really fat and do nothing about it It is very, very hard for most people to lose weight. It's both physical and mental. Healthy food is often more expensive than junk food. If you work long hours, it's hard to fit a work out into your schedule. This is why the fattest people are often the poorest. They usually don't have the education about how to life healthier styles. It is possible, but very difficult and inconvenient.

I just heard it today. My friend an I were talking about girls.
"Your a FAT man right?" My friend said. "What?" I replied "Your a FAT man right?" "I'm a FAT man. I like fat girls? "No. Face Ass Tits. Face first, then ass then tits" he said. "oh, ahhh, so you could be like ATF? " "Ass first, tits , face. Yup . Some guys go that order." "ya guess I'm a FAT man Haha" I said "They gotta have a nice face. You too right?" "ya man if I can't look a girl in the face, forget yo."
sorry for the profanity but thats what it is. Basically the order in which guys value the physical attributes of a girl.
Ok not really anything to do with weight. As for fat tax. I dont like fat or taxes. Well actually I like fatty food!

Speaking from a lady, I would rather the guy look at my face first over my tits and ass if it had to be from the three. Guys that look at the other 2 first are usually 1) horny b******* 2) players 3) only likes big, round objects. Of course there is still a chance that they are the above if they like my face first...but not as obvious as if they are "ATF or TAF". Walked by the other day and this guy stared at my tits and whistled. Ran as fast as I could. A guy says I'm pretty. I smile and say thank you. If I was single, I may even get to know you if you aren't creepy. But I like "PHAT" over "FAT", but that is only me. PHAT= Personality Head Ass Tits. haha. Which one would you rather have from ladies?

FAT - face, ass, tits. That usually means a "smaller" A and smaller "T" (which are positively correlated, though by no means perfectly). Which means no fatties. When people say they are "A" men, they usually mean supermodels, not J-Lo. The truth is that the face is the first thing that any guy notices (unless he's 5 feet tall or something), but saying that a girl has "a pretty face" or worse "pretty eyes" often means she's fat. I have a cousin who sadly is always spoken of thus: "She's so pretty, if only..." I don't know if it's worse for a girl to have a pretty face and an unattractive body or vice versa - I don't think one strictly dominates the other, though I (guiltily) love the term "paper bag princess." I'm not sure if I invented the concept of the "double paper-bag princess" (the girl with such an ugly face you need to put a paper bag over your head in addition to hers).
But yes Virginia, almost all of us men are quite superficial.

No, it's called butterface. Everything's hot, but-her-face.
I would think that most people would go for the face before the body. Beauty ideals subconsciously originate over who would give you the most healthy children, which is why symmetric faces are commonly desired in all cultures (symmetry = healthy, for some reason). A sloppy fat body is usually behaviorally controlled, but an ugly face is usually genetic. So I take full responsibility for my fat ass, but I blame my parents for everything else.

^ Awwww. I'm sure you're pretty. But I do agree with you. I mean....man..you see some really really fat people on the streets and you think to yourself..."why don't they just go work out?", but instead you see them eating 3 BigMacs at McDonalds, then some of them yell at you for being a bit too slow in giving up your seat on the bus. I know losing weight is hard...well..actually I don't know since I am trying to GAIN weight myself. =( But it does take sweat and hard work. But if you want to be more attractive, you gotta do what you can. I have naturally a very fast metabolism so it is extremely hard to gain overall weight. And yeah, it's hard, but I am trying to get myself to eat as much as I can.

Even though I stuff my face all day, I remain slim because of my horrendously fast metabolism.
Recently I've been working out 7 days /week and see so little improvement in my muscular mass, I'm just putting a little on weight..

But I promise you I am not one of those self-conscious girls turning to the internet to fish for compliments. I make fun of myself a lot, but I am actually quite content and probably more confident than most females. You gotta embrace your ugliness - that's my motto. What I want to know after reading through the posts in this thread though: are there any people here who don't hate fat people? Some of you sound very passionate in your disdain for fat people.

Contrary to what Kublai Khan says. Endomorphs have nicer personalities. In days when food was more scarce (pre-Green Revolution), obesity was--and still is in some countries--a sign of wealth. Psychologically, the endomorph is: * Sociable * Fun-loving * Love of food * Tolerant * Even-tempered * Good humored * Relaxed * With a love of comfort * And has a need for affection
