I'm not an avid reader of EAN posts, but lately there's been a lot of say about "teen" behaviour. Could it be because the newer members are younger? Are they younger? It just seems like there's a really bad vibe going around. What's with all the disrespect? Teens or adults, what's the f*ckin' difference if this site is supposed to unite us on our unique ethnic make-up?

When I first joined, there was only me and the mtwbr (spelling) as the only people who filled the <18 bracket. The community is now more divided and diffrent opinions from all diffrent ages are being posted. P.s f***ING WOW IS DOWN

But that doesn't explain the disrespect. Having different opinions doesn't necessarily have to equate to disrespect, does it?

But what I find completely honourable about your post is that if you feel that you have added to the disrespect, then you have set a great example about taking ownership of one's post and taking responsibility. Kudos to you for setting an example, dahling. I just hope that as a group, we make the purpose of this site about unite amongst diversity rather than about flaming and insulting others.

If those teenage gangsters come into my classroom ONE MORE TIME, they'd better PRAY my taser is out battery life. Infact, if they TOUCH another student of mine i'm going to taser them in places they cant even IMAGINE a taser biting into. The other day they started throwing bits of rubbish from the lake under the houses [on stilts] into my classroom and kicking the sides of the house. P.s. That lake lake is FULL of raw sewage garbage and probably dead cats. WHAT KIND OF LUNATIC WOULD DO THAT? A bottle cap hit me in the face the other day and i actually thought i would puke. f***ing Bastards. If they think they can provoke me then f*** them, i'm ignoring them to the day I die. They dont deserve an OUNCE of my attention. I actually dont want to get on their bad side either.. Teenage gangsters+alcohol+a decrepid flooded slum at night time = SCARY. ARGH i hate how i cant DO anything about it. wow. your rant is one of the most deserved yet. Much respect for keeping at it. Thank you . I've actually got another male volunteer who is going to help me from now on. Thus far i've had to deal with it on my own.

Be glad you don't have to TEACH them. It really sucks. Actually I'm teaching an evening class for beginner teenagers, some of those gangsters INCLUDED. Who knows, they might even be good students. They just dont know the meaning of respect.

^ I feel for you. Good luck on that and hopefully everything will turn out OK. A lot of those youths that I have to teach actually do possess a lot of raw talent, but it takes a lot of time to get them to shed their attitude and disrespect. I believe they refer to me as the bitch-monster, which they also think I don't know about. But they're getting better in terms of respect. Have patience

I instruct piano (private lessons), teach highschool+uni accredited musical theory/harmony/history (private and classes), and over the summer accepted a post teaching life drawing. So I teach everything from little kids (very few) to adults. Mostly I teach the 14-19 range. To help troubled youths, the school subsidizes music lessons for them and I teach them. For the most part they are private/semi private (1-4 students) for piano instruction. All of the socalled 'troubled youths' I have to teach are in these classes. So I'm sure that it's a bit different from the class sizes that you'll be working with - although I think you'll have an advantage in that none of them will want to get embarrassed in front of like-minded peers. LOL...I developed a bit of a reputation for turning out very disciplined students so my boss decided that I should be in charge of the troubled youths.
You'll do fine. Just remember that the first impression counts - a lot. If you come across with a balance of firm no-s***-talking and nice I-understand-where-you're-coming-from, it'll probably go a lot smoother.

It would probably go a lot smoother if they spoke english. For now i think i'm stuck with shouting the ABCs at the top of my voice haha. But your advice is definatly something i'll take into consideration. I can imagine its difficult to strike a balance between firm and understanding. Your job sounds amazing , the beautiful thing is that you sounds like you have a positive affect on your 'troubled' students and its probably something they'll be grateful for, for the rest of their lives. Good on you, jaded .
