Is there actually a difference between different branded flat irons/hair straighteners or is it just a gimmick that some have apparently "ionic" or "tourmaline" features? Any experiences with high-end hair straighteners such as Sedu, ghd, Chi, Solia, etc.? How does it compare to other cheaper branded flat irons that you have used such as Conair, Revlon, or non-branded/almost unknown branded flat irons? Thanks! I don't straighten my hair too often, so I can't tell you firsthand. But from what I hear everyone else ranting and raving about, the first thing you should know is that ceramic is always the best. It heats up faster and protects your hair. Chi is always regarded as the top of the line, but it's ridiculously expensive. My sister has one because she straightens everyday. Here's an article about tourmaline: searchwarp.com/swa43284.htmAnd a little about ionic: www.ehow.com/how_2302858_use-ionic-hair-styling-tools.htmlI think if you use an iron guard spray beforehand, those things really don't matter. I do have a very cheap, kinda crappy straightener but my hair comes out straight and smooth all the time and my hair is very healthy. Then again, I never blow dry. But nonetheless, I don't think you need to pay too much attention to that ionic and tourmaline stuff. Above all, you wanna make sure it's ceramic. I can't really tell the difference between my cheap straightener and when I used my sister's chi.

On the slight chance that Eurasians have similar skin tones, can all of you please post for me the brand of liquid foundation that you use, if you use it. I am looking at Revlon Colorstay and none of the shades match me well.

^ I use Skinfood's BB cream. It's a Korean brand. I use the 'natural' tone. I never had luck finding one that fit my skintone in the west. Plus, BB cream is supposed to heal hyperpigmentation marks (I had a lot of that from spots) and it has faded them, but I don't use it all the time. Only occasionally. I just found out that the page for shipping it to Europe no longer exists.

I am looking at Revlon Colorstay and none of the shades match me well. well,it's really really hard to make a generalization but a lot of us tend to be warm toned-have yellow undertones as opposed to pink undertones, which would be cool- or olive, which makes us lean more neutral.we vary pretty drastically in terms of how light or dark we are, though,so i don't really know how to help you there.are you looking for drugstore or higher end foundation? MAC has a pretty good system figured out for color matching people and a lot of people in the beauty industry actually use their system as a reference point for skintones. In the drugstore,L'Oreal Color Match foundation is really great for helping find the right shade.both of those brands have warm, cool, and neutral lines that have varying shades within each tone.takes a lot of guesswork out. ^ I use Skinfood's BB cream. ^ Thanks. L'oreal True Match kinda had my match but the texture was too thin and didn't give enough coverage for me.
I'm starting to get the feeling that it's good to use darker, or at least bright tan, foundations even though my skin is pale. I have a fair to medium complexion but it seems when I use foundation that I think is too dark for me it masks my blemishes better and makes my complexion look better. The woman at Sephora gave me a sample of Lorac Natural Foundation in NP6, which is called Light Tan (lol! I'm not tan!). I just don't wanna look like one of those girls with the orange faces and white necks. Before my problem was always that my face looked too ghostly while my neck looked darker (it wasn't though it's just that the foundation is too cakey and doesn't reflect any light).
My problem is that I have an uneven skin tone with most scarring on my jawline, and my skin is very oily. But whenever I use foundations for oily skin and full coverage they sink into my pores and make me look wrinkly and grosser.

But whenever I use foundations for oily skin and full coverage they sink into my pores and make me look wrinkly and grosser. When I wear foundation, I always stick to mineral powders. I have very very very oily skin. Part of wearing these powder foundation isn't for the coverage, but also for the oil control. I find that just a coating or two of mineral foundation helps my face feel more "normal" instead of oily and greasy. That not only looks bad, but it makes me feel gross. And mineral foundation isn't really bad for your skin, so I'm happy. So if you have really oily skin, I suggest powders over liquids.

i've heard great things about BB cream but it only comes in 2 colors and they both are on the lighter side of the scale. Yes, unfortunately they don't make products for those with darker skin tones. sweetfart - Maybe you could also use a bit of concealer to cover up the uneven skin tone. As for oiliness: I would usually put powder on after applying foundation. I haven't tried mineral make-up, but I would like to! Something else I've heard of that is supposed to be fantastic for 'filling in' those pores so foundation doesn't sink in and make them more visible is Clinique Pore Minimiser Instant Perfector. It should be available at Sephora. If you can't be bothered to buy this Clinique primer/corrector as well as foundation and your skin is light enough, I find the BB cream hides my pores well. I'm always shocked to see the craters in my face when I remove it.

I'm always shocked to see the craters in my face when I remove it. I happen to use Clinique's Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector off and on and it does somewhat help with my pores. At least my skin feels instantly smoother. I bought it because I wanted to hide my stubborn blackheads I have on my nose. It does help a little with that. I'm sure no one really has blackheads as bad as mine. Any blackhead remedies? I have no idea why I got it. Neither my mom nor my dad has any noticeable blackheads. Could is still just be the hormones? I've been blaming it on the hormones since my puberty years but now I'm worried because it is practically over by now.

How do you all feel about Pandora bracelets? I just got one and think that they are nice but a lot of people think they are tacky...
Also what is the secret to perfect skin! I am breaking out like crazy these days despite cleansing, moisturizing and toning!

^I have a Pandora bracelet. They are kinda big and not very dainty, but what I like about them is that you can customize them in a unique way and the variety of beads you can choose for it. I put animal beads on mine and it looks cute!
I would love to hear the "perfect skin" secret too!

I am breaking out like crazy these days despite cleansing, moisturizing and toning! I think they are outdated and tacky. That's just my opinion, but you asked. ;D Skin is a tricky thing. It's hard to dictate what you should do to help your skin, because everyone's skin is so different. The general agreement from almost everyone though is that you should drink a lot of water. Sometimes you just plain can't help it, like me. I've seen several dermatologists and they all say it's just my hormones and there's nothing I can really do to control it except Accutane. I can't take Accutane now because I'm moving around so much and it's a 5-6 month process that must be administered from the same doctor, but that's generally the last resort for anybody with mild to severe acne. So for now, I just stick it out. I was on birth control and it helped for a few months but after stress kicked in it didn't make a difference. I stopped the BC because I was convinced that it was causing me to gain weight. If you have consistent problems, I would really just recommend seeing a dermatologist. A good one will know what to do by looking at your skin and seeing your personal problems.

I recently started using MAC Select SPF 15 again (NC30). It's been a good while since I've used MAC foundation, but the moment I started using it again I remembered how good it was at evening out my skin tone and hiding flaws. It's a bit more spendy but it lasts long enough to justify the extra cost. Plus it's just better than any drugstore foundation I've tried.
As for skin, I recently started using Neostrata's 8% Glycolic Acid Toner and my skin was clearer and brighter within a week! Even Bahzad noticed. I think it would work well for clearing up blackheads, too. I've noticed the pores around my nose have been better.
I'm also using Neostrata Oil Free Mattifying Fluid, which does an impressive job of keeping my skin shine-free.
Neostrata is Canadian, so I'm not sure about availability internationally.

I've been on a crazy girlie shopping craze of late. I discovered a couple of shops in HK that sell wholesale price OPI nail polishes (ie half price) and been splashing out, I now have a collection of 10 and growing.. my nails have never looked so pretty.
Next, I stumbled across Strawberry.net... uhh.. what took me so long?? I've been online shopping at work and ended up buying a lot of stuff (I prob don't need), but its so cheap, and I get discount after discount on it.. and free shipping straight to my office the next day.. awesome. I've ended up with a load of new foundation in particular, and I can totally tell and feel the difference between the branded foundation (MAC/ Bobbi Brown) and just highstreet (L'oreal, Revlon) etc.
The oil-free stuff sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it... definitely need it for the humid summers, when I feel so greasy and shiny.

I used to order from Strawberry.net and it was cheaper but I realized later that the items I was buying were all smaller sizes than what the original company sells. For instance, I got Diorskin Airbrush foundation for maybe $10 less but the bottle they send you is half the size of the store bought one because it was the old discontinued line. Not saying all those items are phonies, but you might want to check on that.
