I took a journalism course and it ruined me for life, pretty much. I used to be a very descriptive writer. My sentences were long and wordy. My stories left nothing to the imagination as my words made a movie out of themselves in your heads. Now, they're short and to the point, precise and concise, unfortunately. Boring I guess.
As for journalism and public relations... I wouldn't want to even go near it. Unfortunately, I was quoted in a local newspaper recently, having been stopped by a column writer. I was displeased with the way my quotes were misused. I sounded, well, absolutely moronic. I would probably give the writer a slap in the face if I see her next time.

Im afraid I agree with Aiko. I had been quoted badly and had my opinion distorted into something I cant recognize anymore. Its a dirty world sooner or later youll be jumping the trapeze in politics and it can only get worst.

I have yet to understand how Public Relations can have a complete major dedicated to it. Seems PR is just something that's a necessary evil in any field. Hell, I have to deal with PR bulls*** working retail. Do they teach you how to flutter from one group to another while holding a flute of champagne? I kid.

Hm? No, I'm pretty sure I've enough degrees.
I thought it might be interesting speaking to the like-minded in the professional sphere.

A good friend of mine works in PR for Fleishman Hillard in Chicago. Some of his job sounds pretty cool, like he works on the Gatorade account and gets to meet guys like Peyton Manning and LeBron James. But sometimes his job sounds pretty awful. Like he had to do a presentation on the health benefits of serving french fries in schools. He said he had to take two showers when he got home from that one. I may give him a bag of coal around Christmas time.

Switching jobs and have done a lot of project management and networking in the past when I did do PR. I can't think of a smoother transition back than now for now. Superman - Your friend should have been so kind as to demo and chart the health benefits born upon himself over a few years.

I've actually just enrolled in a short correspondence course in Events Management and Public Relations, so Celtriya, if you would like a grasshopper, I'm your girl! Teach me master! What is the industry really like? What kind of personality/traits do you need to do well?

You'll know far more than me in a short time. I've never taken a course in it. If you're serious about it, try looking up the iabc in melbourne or oz, go to the free info sessions and mix around. They have some interesting opportunities and the type of people you'll need to know. Don't be intimidated. I will say however that if you're looking for a career in this, be prepared. If you want something more "solid", I'd recommend something in HR, ie. HR consultancy. Not merely pr.
