Jacques Chirac became the subject of controversy after having publicly mocked British cuisine and agriculture in open talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before the International Olympic Committee was due to pick a host city for the 2012 Summer Olympics. He made comments stating that "the only worse food than British food is Finnish" and "the only thing the British have to offer is mad cow disease".

English food is more regional than national and is largely because only certain types of food can be grown in England that in my view makes it quite unique. I also think that Enland, until within the last 50 years was predominantly protestant and this affected lots of attitudes and tastes.
As my background is predominantly Eastern European with a Kalmyk grandmother, I was bought up eating foods more typical of these regions but I cannot stand rye bread so I guess I do not fall in to the stereotype of this region.
I do not eat a lot of fried food as my digestive system cannot handle it but I do like rice, noodles and pasta a lot.
Bon appetit!

I'm actually missing English food. Just plain, boring old cheese and things like that. I've been eating chinese food (out) for 2 days now...
It's home food I really miss, it's a kind of fusion of asian cuisine, not PURE chinese food (except dim sum, but always SO full afterwards).

Oh, British food isn't all that bad. When I am in London I have dinner at Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road. Can't complain about that!

Oh, British food isn't all that bad. When I am in London I have dinner at Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road. Can't complain about that! That's because you're eating in one of the best restaurants in the world!! we do officially have the best restaurant in the world and London is the Gourmet capital of the world, France's best placing was 6 ;D Fourteen English restaurants feature on the list of 50, which is voted for by a panel of over 600 chefs and restaurateurs around the world.I'm totally with you on this subject dude, but the only catch with that list is, it shows some of the best retaurants are in UK, but it doesn't actually say anything about British cuisine... Amognst some of those restaurants located in the UK, some actually provide French cuisine... With a name like Le Quarte Saison, you can't really picture them serving bangers and mash with mushy peas can you? It's like, Spain has the best football players in the world, but doesn't mean Spanish football is the best... you know what I mean?

I hate you, Helen. Being an ex colony, I imagine it's fairly easy to get British food in HK. In Japan, even in Tokyo it's an utter nightmare. I have never seen a fry-up on a menu, never seen pie and chips, and I've had Fish & Chips a few times here and have been utterly disappointed each time - it was all at so-called "English pubs" but it just lacked a certain something. One place really ruined it by wrapping it in a PHOTOCOPIED British newspaper. I mean christ, just use real newspaper or something else, don't try to cheesily fake it.

oh, did i mention they were proper chunky chips too!! I have major fish and chips cravings, but i dare not order it cos i cant imagine it being any good. There used to be a Harry Ramsden's here, and it sucked. Thats what i really want though. lol at the photocopied paper, nice touch.

My favourite is still bangers and mash. Or toad in the hole. Or just a really really good roast- chicken please. There is this great restaurant near where I live which specialises in sausages- homemade ones of all kinds, SO good.

^ I know that feeling. I want to strangle my sister because she loves to tease me about it. I want some fish and chips! Hell, I even want to go into the pubs and order Ploughman's Lunch. I love yorkshire pudding but one thing that I will not touch is toad in the hole *gag*

But I heard that the Stereotype for the English people are that they are lousy in cooking and tasting food .
