I'm going to take up Mandarin soon as it's free to do in my University I should've done it much earlier in my life . Shame I was in International school and did French for 5/6 years up to GCSE's which I've forgetten everything I know about it now . Hopefully I'll be fluent Mandarin after years and years.. as I'd love to speak to my relatives in Mandarin which they mainly speak it. I never got to understand my Po po who spoke a mix of Hainese and Mandarin but sadly she passed away last year . I need to be determined to learn Mandarin as I wasn't too bothered about French, I had to do French as a language in the UK as my previous school here didn't teach a Chinese language .

^ Oh i know what you mean.. my parents made me take french, even though i got really good grades for mandarin. I think from year 7 to year 9 i took french mandarin and latin, but i had to drop two of them so i ended up with bloody french.
I spoke mandarin fluently until i was 6 years old so hopefully my brain has developed the ability to cope with mandarin. I really really pray that if i spend some time in China next year, it wont be so difficult for me to pick up the language.
I dont know if any of you have this problem? Like i know that some chinese is still lurking inside my head because sometimes i'll pass people speaking chinese and i'll sort of get the gist of what they're saying even though i wouldnt immediatly know the direct translation in enlgish. Bizarre eh??
