? or not quite? That was an inspirational and beautiful description. Is the house nearly done yet? ^That's beautiful!! Your interpretation is very robust! The one I've designed is actually quite minimalist. It's a fusion of balinese (flowers), japanese (rocks) and bauhaus (shower, slate walls & ceiling). I'll make it much easier by drawing it one of these days! But great interpretation!! I think your designs works really well for an outdoor shower.... which is a must for a house in a tropical climate.

Yup, but unfortunately the pear tree doesn't bear any fruit.. *yet* I heard sometimes it takes years, ahh well.
Oooh wow, very pretty roses you have! I'd love to see more I remember we did have a miniture rose that I was given some time ago.. they changed color also, I have no idea why either... Hmm.. I love the type of roses with a nice fragrance, I better start my search, so many to choose from! Ahh.. my mum takes cutting off as well, people who have no idea usually think we are killing the plants.. that must be why they make strange faces at us haha I'm still pretty much a novice when it comes to gardening but hopefully I will learn more!

Ha ! ^ Was it more zen-minimalist? I'm curious about what it's meant to look like. I thought of the hanging gardens of babylon... maybe not. LadyLuck, I want to grow a pineapple tree but the tree is not too small and it takes several years for the plant to produce fruit. It's not only a matter of time, also (tropical) sunlight which we don't have much of up here! Not to mention the high temperature and humidity it would need. ..And an avocado tree but it takes 7 to 8 years to produce fruit. Marie, have you ever carved an avocado seed? I've always been tempted. I'm going to try when I get back to my place next week. And LadyLuck, about the roses, I tried to go back to where I got my cutting last year yesterday and since it's near a large pond there were massive amounts of duck poop all over the grass and I could not see how the mother plant/bush was doing. Yes, I got even weirder looks for tiptoeing halfway through the field. Thanks for the comment about the roses. The fragrance is heavenly. I literally sit there and just smell and think and it's pretty peaceful. They're rather bare and stick-y looking now since it's winter. If you like flowers with fragrance, try a jasmine plant. They're hardy plants too and can be grown outside depending on your location. Or they bloom like mad indoors with a south facing window to get the sun. Anyway keep us updated on the rose hunting/research.

I don't think I have any pics of my cherry blossom after the chopping I think only before I will have to check. Right now I'm really into Terrarium mini gardens in mini glass houses or bowl. I also had a bleeding hearts plant outside but it died on me within days and I have no idea why I would like to have it again but I guess I will have to keep it indoors since it seems senstive.

hehehee ! i found it ! actually i had found it yesterday but didn t get to come back online... so here s a pic of the doodle ! so you have a wall covered in plants to your right, the oposite wall is covered w/ wooden/bamboo slats... and the water s coming out of the ceiling from those fancy slates that make it look like rain...*skeptic look from the client* we chose smooth edged rocks in case you slip in the shower and end up .... for saftey reasons ! ;D *trying to sound convincing* ^and since i was inspired that very same day i started doodling a dream shower....but it didn t turn out like i wanted it to, but i think you get the gist of it ... i wanted it to really shower - i don t think i d have the patience to wait for the rain like shower to rinse... but because i really like Rob s idea, the shower head is large enough to fit your entire body circumference beneath it ! but i still wanted to be surrounded by this curtain of water, like being trapped behind a waterfall... i think the best bath tub would be a round wooden tub, with... urrr ...back on topic and plants ! ;D yup ! i ve carved avocado seeds before ! you should definitely try it ! not my favourite medium but it s always fun ! just like making tiny characters (more like...pellets) out of the white, soft, non crusty part of the bread when i was a kid ! not great to work with but it s always good to know you can use almost anything as a medium and make it into tiny artwork ! basically all you have to do with the avocado seed is to let it sit for about 12 hours and peel the brown layer off... and sculpt it ! then you let it sit in the sun....or preferably somewhere hot, and dry... i usually put it under the lamp...it ll go through different shades of colour, yellowish, orange... and will eventually end up looking like wood !

LadyStayC, I think I need to know more about your bleeding heart plant. What season/temperature? Which side of the house was it on (north, south, east, west)? How often were you watering it, and roughly what's your location? lol Marie, you're right - that's a little freaky about the way we did the orchids and towel. I love it. I think that's much more zen with less rocks and water with lilies. And I like the bamboo theme. Actually, since Rob is getting old now, I included a bench and a handle in the rock if you can spot it. lol. My rocks are smooth-edged in person, I swear. Though I thought of this semi-rough paneling towards the right side of the shower in my sketch where he can do the asian squat (up and down) and scrub his back. Yes, I'll carve a seed soon and post it up one of these days. Thanks for the tips! I'll grow an avocado plant in the future, perhaps. Not right now - too many plants. I also think how great plants would be as gifts... but then I'm not so sure and I think twice. You know I went wandering around the store (not a plant store but had a plant section) not long ago and was sad to see so many bashed or ripped up boxes of those 'easy-to-grow' bulbs like hyacinths and colourful glasses. They are meant to be 'perfect gifts' but people obviously didn't want them and returned the bashed up boxes after christmas was finished. They're alive for pete's sake. But at least they weren't rooted and then horribly abandoned... They were returned as whole (unrooted) bulbs in not-so-perfect boxes. It also makes me very very sad to see the betta-plant bowls/jars they sell in those department stores. Betta fish need at least a gallon of water per fish. Argh. What say you, Saruman? They look like this: Saru, thanks for writing so much about your plants or things you've grown. Maybe you'll tell me your apple seed story sometime. It sounds interesting. I think I told you about that prank about planting pumpkin seeds across the small field infront of the offices.. Hmm. You know, Marie, I think it would be fun to have a thread about sketches of interior design and houses. People can post whatever - computer graphics, sketches from paint program, handdrawn sketches, paintings etc. What do you think?

You're welcome, Celtriya. It makes me very sad to see those betta-plant bowls sold anywhere. As you point out, bettas need much more room than that to thrive. It shouldn't be OK to stuff them in a little bowl or jar just because they are labyrinth gill air breathers and can survive in tight spaces. There is usually plant decay and a rapid build up of toxic waste products in such a small environment, and pollution caused by store clerks who over feed them. They are treated merely as products to be sold, and not thought of as living creatures that need to be taken care of. I would also add that, while I kept and raised many pets as a youngster, I am now opposed to keeping any living creatures in captivity. That sounds like a Shinto perspective regarding the plants

Yes ! Glad I'm not the only one. Thanks, Jun. I love hearing how other people would/have designed their living spaces.

I am now opposed to keeping any living creatures in captivity. I feel the same way but I would rather make one life a little better and forfeit personal qualms. And I agree about the pollutants in the death-jars.

I do enjoy plants... when I buy a house, I plan on having a large garden accompanied by a zen garden... and lots of water. Right now, all I have is a "fake" bonsai tree that my boyfriend bought me before leaving back home. It's not exactly a bonsai tree, but it's a very small tree that's growing in a bonsai-like container... and it's actually starting to grow a new plant away from the tree on the other side of the container.
And I'm just wondering... are bamboo really supposed to be anti-kill proof? That's what I've been hearing... cos I ended up killing my bamboo. Maybe I'm just really special...

Thank you, Celtriya. I agree about the commitment to trees. They are so majestic. I'd like to read that book. And the idea of winter flowering plants sounds wonderful. I'd have a big greenhouse for the inside plants, too. btw, I was surprised to hear of some orchids that actually can take cooler weather. maybe not as cool as your area, but not so tropical. Really? That's wonderful! Though no... I don't think they would last here. That's a great question though. I may have to come back later (years later) and answer it more fully regarding exactly how I would have a garden laid out. No tree is a fake bonsai tree if it is alive. Take care of it and it will grow stronger and perhaps validate itself in your eyes. Bonsai only means growing trees small. There are fanatics about it but most people practice bonsai when they merely trim a hedge, or prune the bushes in their front yard. Bamboo are not kill proof. I think you may have Lucky Bamboo which looks like this: It is not real bamboo and is constantly mistaken for it; it's another species, Dracaena. And is not killproof either. Pay attention to the signs of a dying plant. Many can be nursed back to health. It must have been suffering for a long time. Saru had a great tip - try to read on your plant and build your knowledge. It will help its chances of survival, and award you with many years of joy.

^Good stuff!!
And i'm a fool for seeing Marie's drawings last week and only commenting now. I love how over-the-top yours (and Cels) bathroom gardens are..... I almost cringe at how much time extra time I would need to spend in there there pruning and weeding (get your mind out of the gutter!). I am stealing your bamboo idea for my design btw. ;D
As for flowers that i have, well i'm never around so i've only got ultra low maintenance ones...... (cactii, venus fly traps)... but lately I make it a point to swing by hotel conventions and take their extra flowers after the events and put them on my dining room table ;D . I really hate it though when they don't let me take them so sometimes i have to snap the stems and stuff them in my bag.... which just means i leave them in a deep dish plate instead of a vase.
added: i forgot to add i have a baby banana tree!! poor guy didnt have water for 2 weeks.
