<snip> So did you have a different hair or eye colour when you were a baby/kid? Yes, and so did my dad (his hair went from dark blond, to sandy brown, to white... . As for me, my hair was more of a consistent, medium brown when I was a baby but got naturally lighter and reddish with blond streaks when I reached adulthood. Now, I've even got some white hairs... As for the eyes, I'm not sure that it's even possible (any experts here?). People can start out with lighter eyes as babies that get darker as melanocytes develop, of course. In my case, I developed clumps of melanocytes around my pupils -- the additional pigment gives me a brown ring around the pupils, surrounded by a yellow-hazel band (on display in that other "eye" thread). From a distance, my eyes can look like a light brown/amber (depending on lighting), but technically, they're hazel (brown and amber are solid). To avoid a science lecture, I've always described them as light brown to people...

^ I read somewhere that eyes color can change either darker or lighter with age. It was a high percentage too like 10%. But be careful it could be disease too. ^I think Kyuree's question was dealing with changes in eye color from infancy to adolescence. Does your comment, highlighted above, apply to this, in particular (apart from the pathological possibility)?

I was blond as a child and then it changed to very light brown with reddish highlights, then to my natural dark brown. Many babies with caucasian heritage are born with lighter hair and eye colors than when they mature because the melanin that colors either of two things is not yet fully present. My husband (Italian) was born the blondest of blonds with blue eyes and now has darkish brown hair and green eyes (though they look blue with yellow on weird days).
My sister and sister-in-law could both be examples of going the other way around too - my sister was born very dark and shriveled so much so that everyone called her a rat at birth (doesn't help that her Chinese zodiac sign is a rat). She got lighter very soon after - the black hair fell out and was replaced with medium brown hair and the skin lightened too.
My sister-in-law who is blond was also born very dark. So much so that when my Italian husband was presented to the baby he exclaimed "But this is a black baby!" (wow that sounds more offensive in English than the equivalent Italian). Now he was exaggerating because I have seen pictures, but she was a lot darker than she her natural color. As with my sister her dark hair fell out and was replaced with blond hair and the skin also lightened (though you can't tell now because she is addicted to tanning).
I have no literature on the phenomena behind this, but it's not all that uncommon. I've also never heard of eyes lightening, but I would not rule it out. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

My half siblings were born dark haired (with blue eyes that they still have). But after a while they got blonde. Just one of my half siblings did not have dark hair at birth and that was my red headed sister, she had almost no hair when she was born.
Even though Ive been dark haired my entire life, I first had jet black hair when I was born which turned lighter brown when I was a kid and then a bit darker again.
I read somewhere that its common for people who are hetrozygote for hair colour, to express the different colours (allelles of genes) during different stages in life. The most common should be to change from light to darker though.
But Ive never heard of kids born with brown eyes that turn blue later... Is that possible??

Newborn babies usually have blue eyes from what I`ve heard.
My eyes were dark blue. My hair was black and totally straight. I was very pale. People said I looked like a "pure chinese baby". Now my eyes are goldish- greenish- greyish. My hair`s still dark bu now it`s curly. I`m still very pale. People say I don`t look asian at all.

And is it common for half asians to be born with blue eyes? I also looked very asian as an infant, and now nobody recognizes the asian in me, unless I tell them first. Then theyre like: I see it now that youve said it!

^ I gotta say, I dig that cat of yours! Back to the subject of this thread... I think I started with dark hair, then medium brown that got bit lighter in the sun, now its very dark brown with some red and blond strands that I noticed more often especially in summer. Oh and the eyebrows are bordering towards Gregory Peck status and require grooming

My irises were originally a very black-brown, but now they're kind of amber. They lightened up a lot over the years.

I had black eyes, dark skin and black curly hair. Lightened up a bit to now have dark brown eyes and dark brown wavy hair and olive skin. Nothing's really changed. I was a really chubby baby and looked euro apart from the fact I had slitty eyes!

My hair colour was lighter when I was a kid... I think it's quite normal than one's hair gets darker over time. My hair is a lot curlier now, I dunno if that's equally normal.

This is pretty surprising. My hair and eyes change every day. My hair is usually black/dark with maroon or conditioned red and blond highlights. It used to be straight, so I'm hoping it gets straight again as I get thinner. I gave up on developing curls. My eyes are always dark to with light brown, but not just plain brown, like gray and greenish and bluish and yellow. Pretty typical yet not.. But my skin? It gets both very white and very tan. Might not want to consider it white, but I'd like to be more of that sort. I certainly do not want to be cream... Well... I only hope that it all gets lighter in tone but keeps color.
