I never see my Asian relatives. My cousin is 1/2 Hispanic, and I feel she is treated how I wanted to be treated in every way. Still, it's always about that she doesn't have a good family because her father doesn't live with her. She is 5 1/2 years younger. People don't differentiate with me between a decision and what you do. That is really all that I experience. All my friends seem to say "leave it to the relatives." This cousin always seemed completely wild and hurtful. She doesn't look Spanish, though. She might have some indian on the other side, too, they said, but probably mostly Spanish, English, etc.

I never see my Asian relatives either. They disowned us, although I did meet my grandfather once, took me out for sake when I was 12. So I guess he's alright in my books.

My relatives are all accepting of me. I met my grandmother for a whole summer my first year of high school. I was happy to see a "real Indonesian." I think the Barrett side disowned us.

My Asian relatives have always been incredibly kind to me, though I only see them once every three or four years. Still, I sometimes sense a little tension there, but I think that's mostly cultural. There is one uncle by marriage that I know absolutely despises me, but I don't let it get to me.

I have one uncle I know well enough by marriage. He is all German with red hair and now a retired army colonel. He has a daughter born in 1980 and a son in 1988/9. His daughter just got married. They are half Cuban, though. The daughter has dark hair and eyes and is like 6'4" and the son is now taller (used to be shorter) and has white hair and lighter brown eyes. This is the older aunt, just a few years younger than my father, and she has no children. She married when I was a baby and soon divorced. She was with him since I was 7 (lived together for a long time) and they married when I was 13 up north, though they live in Fort Lauderdale. They are both in the police force.
I feel in tune with my Asian side completely. I love to sew and my mom's mom is a tailor. Her 9 year younger sister is a piano teacher, and I got into piano by the time I was 9 1/2 and then majored in it and organ and quit. My mom did a music group in school, like the Indonesian band, and competed, but she did ballet and Indonesian dancing as a child. In high school, she started gymnastics and won some medals (not Olympic, and it wasn't as advanced in those days,) for the country. It surprised me since you can't do that today. I understand that children starting gymnastics at 5-7 and getting into the Olympics was the revolution in places like Romania. I started when I was 1 3/4. People used to be thin, as well as disciplined..
