Aight, I'm half white/ half chinese. I was born and raised in US. I lived there till I was 14, then moved to Singapore and went back to the states for college and am currently working in Miami.
So yea my question is do Asian male stereoypes effect you in da dating game (e.g. dating white, black, latina girls).
I mean I get plenty of love from Asian-American girls and in Asia, Asian girls be throwing themselves @ me. In Asia, Eurasian hapas are considered super ot or something, like most models, radio presentators, mtv VJ's are Eurasian.
But in tha states, white girls see me as an Asian dude. Yea, they tell me that I'm good looking, but they also tell me they normally don't date Asians, but I'm a "hot Asian". Whats that suppose to mean.
In Asia, a Eurasian actor can be a super star E.g. Daniel Henney, Dennis Oh, Michael Wong, Anthony Wong, Karen Mok etc.
But in tha states, Eurasian actors still get stereotypical roles.
2) Another question, ight does negative portrayal of Asian men offend you? I mean I'm half, but like William Hung and all those kung fu no english, computer geek s*** bothers me. Dunno why.
Your thoughts?

Yes. I get offended by all kinds of stereotypes - including stereotyping of other people and groups - but obviously that hits close to home. I won't deny that I enjoy seeing Asian men break the usual stereotypes, or that I don't take extra pleasure in seeing an Asian man with women of other races. I don't know how it affects my dating game or if it has affected me personally, since I have often passed as white, at least upon first impressions, and I've never heard a girl say something like - "oh, I'm not surprised you're good at math because you're part Asian" or "oh, I didn't think Asian men were that well endowed..."

Will Jung is not doing Asian men any favors, but on the other hand, every race has its famous awkward geek dude who wears his pants too high. At least he doesn't have buck teeth

did you just start this thread to declare that you are a "hot asian"?
if so, I may have a mobile phone modeling contract I can funnel your way for a 10% commission.

"... hmm, you might want to rethink why." I think penis size is the most pernicious stereotype affecting Asian men dating, whether it is deserved or not. We're all thinking it, so why not just lay it out there for discussion. Frankly I'm surprised there aren't any threads on that topic already, except that this is supposed to be a family friendly board. Perhaps Eurasian males are exempt from this stereotype, depending on how Asian they appear, because of the genetic lottery element, but I suspect it still tends to act as a drag on our collective game. Other than getting some more Asian male porn stars out there (or conducting a large scale study to determine whether that stereotype is justified at all and in what context) I don't really know how to combat it.

Yeah, asian stereotypes DO offend me also. Even though I'm 1/4 chinese, 1/4 filipino, and half caucasian, people treat me like I'm full-asian (esp. here in the southern US) and try to apply stereotypical asian male personality traits to me, most of which I do not exhibit at all. I am very loud, outspoken, opinionated, extroverted, and sometimes even obnoxious, not the stereotypical shy, quiet, studious asian male at all. I've even had a college professor treat me like I didn't speak english before even speaking to me, just because I was sitting 3 seats down from a Japanese exchange student. I was like wtf, I was born and raised in the USA! Everytime I watch Heroes, the asian guy's computer geek, over-the-top facial expressions persona really gets on my nerves too.... If I were an actor in Hollywood, I'd starve before taking a role that portrayed asians in that same ol light. I'd love to see asian males shown in the media as a leading man or cool, attractive, playboy type instead of the nerdy friend or sidekick to a white guy.
On a side note, I've only dated caucasian women (due to the lack of asian women in my area) and I've NEVER had any complaints re: penis size. In fact, the women Ive been with have always been "pleasantly surprised" so to hell with that myth.

Interesting, cause I also "root" for Asian men. I also enjoy seeing Asian actors playing non-stereotypical roles (e.g. John Cho, Harold and Kumar, Will Yun Lee in Torque), I support Asian rappers (jin)/ athletes, The funny thing is that I'm half-Asian and don't look full, plus my dad is white, so how cum we still root for the Asian dude??? What's your opionon on the dating disparity. Seems like Asian/ EA women get more love from the different races than Asian/ EA men. I'm talking about the U.S., NOT Asia. edit: Do you think i look Asian?

Not to be insensitive or anything. but while I sympathize, I really have no idea what you guys are talking about when threads like this get brought up. I haven't experienced true racism since the 4th grade.
Even a few full Asians I know (one including my half brother) date and/or are married to white women. These guys aren't even EA, and it doesn't seem to be a big issue with them.
As for my particular experience, on a good day, and as ridiculous as it sounds (it's the only humorous way I can put it), I find myself in situations where I'm like the male equivalent to the big boobed girl at a party, who mentions she has a headache, and all of the sudden three guys have a Tylenol in their hand. Except in my case, it's women.
Why any of it happens, and why some of you seem to be living in some nightmarish re-enactment of Mississippi Burning, I don't know. I could say that this or that feature works in my favor, that maybe I look more "white", or maybe because I'm taller than usual, I've escaped from that negative "penis stereotype" (dear lord)... Who the hell knows. I do know that I've known "shorter", more Asian looking guys who do OK though. In fact, the biggest puller I've ever known was a gothy half Japanese/half Mexican guy, who looked more Asian than not, had a wide broken nose, was of average height, was more effeminate than Prince himself (down to carrying around a purse), and yet, he never ceased to have girls around him -- and he wasn't gay at all. Years later, I'm still in awe of that guy.
And no, I'm not rich. I'm poor, and look it. And it's not like I'm some social butterfly. Not exactly outgoing or loud. I can be pretty guarded, and "stereotypically" studious and reserved. And you know what? I'm pretty sure it works to my advantage too. For example: Some friends of a friend came over from South Padre -- real cute blondes -- we all went out one night, I barely said a thing, and walked over to a couple different tables to chat with other friends. Every one of my guy friends wanted to bug these girls though. Even the girls did! Anyhow, at the end of the night, as we were leaving the bar, some drunk frat boys started hollaring at them, following us outside, which in turn, got some of my friends pissed and jealous, and talking s***. I just sat down on the curb, shaking my head and giggling to myself. Long story short, things cooled down, and they drove me home. But the next day... those two girls, to my surprise, were beholden with me. The hotter one made the first move (with one of the corniest lines I've ever heard), and when the other one stumbled upon us, she was miffed, stomping her toes. Seemed like it was some ever repeating situation with those two -- but I found it all pretty hilarious.
Anyhow, my point is: "Studious" may, in fact, be a good thing.

I think what also is evolving in the States is recognition of the differen't Asian ethnicities (even five years ago and in the past all Asian were Chinese) and what is hot, cool, prosperous, and other stereotypes that affect desireability in Asian attractibility in other ethnicities eyes. I really don't get the Asian problem at all. It might take people some time to look for it if I announce it. So it really doesn't affect me. I think it cool to be Japanese so I will broadcast it..why not? Anime, Sushi, Cars, Ninja's, Samurai's, Swords, and Pearl Harbor..lol...oh can't forget Hiroshima.
Japanese here in America can now thank the Arabs that they bombed the Towers ...takes that guilt that we had off us! (Which we had since WW2) ;D

The funny thing is I'm not even of Japanese descent, but that dudes facial expressions get on my nerves too... Ok, but here's the twist. We are halg white/ half Asians. Why dont we feel connected with the Brad Pitt, Arnie, George Clooney, Pierce Brosnan, Christian Bale etc. I mean those guys are cool right and we're half white. I meanI don't, I rather see a cool Asian acotr as the lead in Tokyo Drift or something. also why arent we happy with Keanu Reeves and Rob Sneider is it cause they don't rep Hapas?

^ Might be because both of them are mediocre actors. Maybe the asian in us makes unique in a predominantly white society. Better to stand out than blend in?

Anyhow, my point is: "Studious" may, in fact, be a good thing. Studious IS a good thing. I meant I don't like it when ppl I don't know assume I'm studious based on my race, they should look at my GPA instead to infer that. ;D

But the Japanese have no reason to feel guilty, they received more than they deserved with 2 nuclear bombs, the Americans got them back 10 fold - in a cowardly way. And they have a lot of cool s*** to be proud of, I don't know were I'd be without Japanese turbocharged cars Back on topic here: Stereotypes only effect EAs if they let them, unless they happen to look more/or full Asian - then it might. I've said this before and I'll say it again, we're not Asian we're Eurasian, the best of both worlds Penis size is usually relative to body size/height (not always though), and most of us Eurasian dudes seem to be taller than average. Check out the stats - the cock size of the average full Caucasian dude isn't very big anyway, so most of us have nothing to worry about there (LOL).

Where I'm from, I'm about as asian as most people have ever seen. I've never had someone ask me if I were EA, b/c they always think I'm full asian since they've usually never seen an asian person in real life before. When I'm done with school, I'm outta here. lol

Agreed, military target vs. civilian targets, not to mention magnitude. Asian sterotypes do get my blood boiling, even though I'm only 1/4 asian. I don't know what it is, maybe lack of European or white prejudice in the world? I do look down on white people, but I probably shouldn't spread racism. Everyone is supposed to be equal after all.
