If only it had been George Takei breaking the color barrier by locking sweet lips with Bill Shatner instead of that bitch Nichelle Nichols (she should have waited her turn).

Have you ever seen an Asian-American dude kissing an Asian-American girl (let alone a white girl) on primetime TV or in a blockbuster movie? Jacky Chan in Rush hour?? lol... In "Shanghai Kiss", the Asian-American main guy kisses both an Asian and white girl In "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", Leonardo Nam is paired with Amber Tamblyn In "Akira's Hip Hop Shop", the Asian main guy kisses(and sleeps with) the main black girl Paolo Montalban plays the Prince, opposite of Brandy in the 1997 version of "Cinderella"

[quote author=calikid board=relationships thread=9620 post=342885 time=1218037199 Have you ever seen an Asian-American dude kissing an Asian-American girl (let alone a white girl) on primetime TV or in a blockbuster movie? Jacky Chan in Rush hour?? lol... Can't think of any. Closest I can think of is Japanese Story, which I believe is an Australian film. It sounds a bit sappy which is why I've never seen it, but I do believe it surrounds an AM/WF couple. And somehow I managed to find this site somewhere. www.aznlover.com/[/quote] Well besides independent or foreign film like Better Luck Tomorrow, Shanghai Kiss or Aussie I never heard of, there are barley any hollywood blockbuster films or prime time TV shows that shows an Asian-American man/ Asian American woman love/ sex/kiss scene. The irony is that AM are more often paired with a non-asian women, than an AF. Not that he gets to have a sexscene or kiss scene. The fact that we have to think real hard or search the internet to find such a movie explains enuff. The only movie I can think of is Harold and Kumar. But I still cant find an AMERICAN movie with am/af.

These movies are independ and nobody knows them. But yea, its good to start independent, you gotta start small, its progress...

Yea, you know whats interesting. Justin Lin originally wanted an Asian-American or Hapa lead for Tokyo Drift. The studio couldnt handle an Asian guy, so they searched for a hapa, but none impressed at the auditions. So wrote Han for Sung Kang. The story would have made much more sense, for a Hapa to go to Tokyo, than Lucas Black who looks 30+

It's not about if you've seen full blooded Asian guys with non-asian girls. think about this: Have you ever seen an Asian-American dude kissing an Asian-American girl (let alone a white girl) on primetime TV or in a blockbuster movie? Right, I forgot that fantasy is more important than reality. Also, lol@the notion of Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2 being an indie movie.

It depends on whose the pitcher and who's the catcher. LOL @ CJF I think you put your finger on it. We need the good Captain to bend over quickly as Sulu engages his rear thrusters. The last time I saw Takei was on the Daily Show where he was interviewed as part of a segment about why there are no Asian male pornstars - Takei played the straight man, criticizing the discrimination he saw in the industry. Only they didn't talk about the racial politics of gay porn... TeeHee- nice finds. I've only heard of one of those movies (sisterhood 2) but it's a start. Are any of those movies actually any good (have you even seen them)? Akira's hip hop shop seems kind of interesting.

TeeHee- nice finds. I've only heard of one of those movies (sisterhood 2) but it's a start. Are any of those movies actually any good (have you even seen them)? Akira's hip hop shop seems kind of interesting. Of the ones I posted, I've seen Shanghai Kiss, Cinderella, and the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants(the sequel that I posted hasn't come out in movie theaters yet, but soon I think). All of those are fairly mainstream(I didn't have to look around for them), I saw them when they first came out. The only one I posted that may fall under the independent category is Akira's Hip Hop Shop, but even that movie stars actors who've done their share in mainstream works(James Kyson Lee in "Heroes" and Emayatzy Corinealdi in "The Young and the Restless). Depends on what you consider "good"; I liked them, thought they were "cute" movies, though they may not be everyone's cup of tea. To give a brief sypnosis (and the racial dynamics) of each, without spoiling it too much: Shanghai Kiss- a romantic comedy/drama starring Ken Leung as Liam Liu, a Chinese-American actor living in L.A. who unwittingly gets involved with a young white highschool girl(played by Hayden Panettiere). She's coming onto him all over, but he's resistant to her because of the age difference. A sort of side story, he has a fling with another white girl(there's a scene where they're having sex). Anyways, he suddenly has to go to China after learning from his father that he's inherited his grandmother's house in Shanghai; and in the process meets the Asian girl(played by Kelly Hu) and sort of has a thing with her. Coincidentally, the movie touches a bit on the issue of portrayal of Asians in western media. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants- the movie centers around four teenage girls who are best friends, have been together all their lives etc, but are soon about to separate for the summer. They find a pair of pants that magically fits all of them, even though they have different measurements. They decide to share the pants among them equally over the summer as a way of keeping together when they are apart. One of the girls is Tibby(played by Amber Tamblyn). In the first movie, she and Brian(played by Leonardo Nam) are friends, and the chemistry is there though they don't actually get together yet, until the sequel, where they become bf/gf. Not much is mentioned of his ethnicity at all. His character has a fully western name in fact, just happens to be played by an Asian actor. As for Akira's Hip Hop Shop, being that it's had just scheduled/limited showings so far, I haven't actually seen the movie yet, just videoclips and trailers from it. The dvd is coming out later this month though, so I'd like to check it out when it does. Here's a trailer I saw of it www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhjxM37-qpk

I'm super offended by them. They're not often applied to me, but I feel bad for asian guys because I feel like they get a bad rap.
it might sound weird, but i think harold and kumar did an awesome portrayal of this and really portrayed asian men in a good light.

I am not an EA man, but I find most stereotypes funny including the asian male one.

It's funny, even porn star Sasha Grey said something about the utter lack of asian male performers... she said she would like to work with one, but never have since they don't exist (at least not in L.A.).
