Eva all round is confusing because it doesn't explain allot of things like what are the angels and when it does answer a question it then raises even more questions - I reckon thats why its interesting. It wouldn't be a surprise then that allot of people wont understand the two endings.

yeah I guess so. I've seen the movie, which I reckon should've been the original last two episodes becuase even though the ending is still a bit confusing (why the heck r they on a beach?lol), it's more entertaining and u see what happens to all of the characters. what i meant was the last two tv episodes are really confusing...what exactly is going on? did shinjii die or something cos everything was happening in his mind the altenate universe is hilarious tho lol rei actually shows emotion

yeah I see why you think the movie version endings should of been the original, because those endings offered people a story to grasp something to show them what happens to the characters. The movie endings resolved what was a action genre but the original endings kept story progression to a minimum instead focusing on theme's - where allot of people when they saw it thought "wtf". The original endings were theoretical & experimental - pre 1996 that was never done in anime especially a action genre anime. But I dont like Eva for its action but for its characters.
The last 2 original endings themes are "communicating between people", "the human heart", "looking for acceptance", "loneliness".. whatever sounds and seems like depression.. its in there. Some people believe Eva has Hideaki Anno's struggle with depression engrained throughout the series where the struggle comes to light in the last 2 episodes.
I could write essays on Eva (lol) but the last 2 original episodes is when Gendo has initiated the human instrumentality project using Rei, the last episode and resolution of the series is where Shinji rejects instrumentality and embraces positive trains of thought. Infact everyone is going through instrumentality, but the episodes fixate on Shinji's thoughts & final breakthrough through his anxiety & lack of self worth. by the way my favourite line is Rei's
"Hey, you're the jerk who was staring at my panties!"

I used to love that cartoon Azumanga Daioh! Which is why one of my old SNs is Razuberry Heaven. But...yeah, that might not be the kind of thing you're talking about.

^ lol i love it when rei is like "crap im late!" so during the instrumentality project, everyone's still alive? i never actually understood what the human instrumentality project actually was? Its hard to explain The human instrumentality project supplements whats missing from mankind, creating a "perfect existence" The organisation SEELE which means soul in German, mentions its the next step in mans evolution. the instrumentality project is controlled by humans - Gendo & SEELE not angels, its like a controlled version of third impact combining all the human souls into one being using the angel Lilith who's soul is essentially imbued in Rei - Its different to the Angels third impact where they want to combine with Adam, and that'll wipe out humanity. You can think of it like, the garden of Eden. The instrumentality project would combine all the descendants of Adam, everything that came from adam would be re-absorbed back into him making him "whole" again, he would be back in the garden of Eden perfect in god's original intent but he would have nothing to live & strive for... but he'd be perfect. also remember there is no storyline conclusion to the human instrumentality project, the tv series ends when Shinji rejects instrumentality. Everyone is alive whilst all this goes on but they're views on instrumentality are not explored, except for a mention by Misato. the Instrumentality project essentially, puts human souls into a singular perfect state of being.

in the tv series - all angels are effectively eliminated but Lilith. Adam's is hard to answer, he's kind of semi dead after kaworu dies, because adam's soul is in kaworu. Also unit01 becomes a articifical angel by made by humans accidently once it consumes a s2 engine. after that happens it becomes a liability when used in combat.

You cannot keep thinking linearly to get a answer of whether they're dead or not for the last 2 episodes because they focus on themes not storyline. Instrumentality delivers the answer to Evangelions themes. Instrumentality is a alternate plane of existence where human souls compliment each other's emotional weaknesses to meld into one. Because there is no storyline conclusion to the tv series, just the sudden philosophical resolution to Shinji's theme & the very nature of existing in instrumentality - the question of whether they're alive is irrelevant. If you count being just a soul in a alternate existence as "alive" than you can interpret them as all being alive - since Kaji(dead) is also shown as being conscious. Why do you like Asuka, Misato & more importantly Evangelion?

Texhnolyze: just guilty, not so guilty pleasure. I'm drawn in even with the sound off. If it was translated into film, the cinematography could be stunningly beautiful.

Pretty much the same reasons as you. but its my favourite anime above others due to the double meanings, visual metaphors, religious references, & how messed up everyone is.
