I won't celebrate the day those spaniards came to América and destroyed almost all prehispanic cultures. Even if I'm a "product" of that conquest. (My dad's family being slave traders in Cape Verde back in the 16th Century and being one of the first European families in America). The Encomienda System which together with many illnesses killed millions across America. The stupid concept that spaniards born in a colony were second class persons.
Of course today's Mexican culture cannot be understood without spanish influence, but still I see no reason to celebrate that. We have in September 15 and 16 our Independence Day!!!!

A number of those foods are typically Spanish, rather than Filipino....

^^Probably it's celebrated in the exclusive neighborhoods? Nothing like an empanada or poached peach when the Indios all eat rice with rat.

As far as I know, Filipinos today are more busy being Filipino, rather than celebrate the Spanish colonization... Most people prefer to celebrate the Filipino national heroes who fought and died for the country's independence from Spain.

Hey Octavian, You don't know about el Día de la Hispanidad? I think that it is only celebrated in cities in the Philippines. Are you from the province? My family is from the province, but we have relatives and friends in Manila who do celebrate it. It is also celebrated by many in Cebu, Dumaguete, San Carlos City, etc. I have many (hundreds?) of photos from el Día de la Hispanidad/ Día de la Raza celebrations from all over the Philippines starting in the early 1900s until last year. ... It sounds like you and people on EAN need to see these. I am more than happy to share these with everyone!!! Doesn't that sound great? Yay! yep, please post pic of the celebration i would like to see it, anyway im from iloilo/bacolod.

Wow! So there are people here from Bacolod. My mother spent a large part of her life there. She was born in La Carlota. I visited both a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I missed out on all the fiestas though.

Yeah, I've also been to La Carlota a few times, that's only maybe 15 mins from Pontevedra Wish I could see the Masskara festival someday, I always missed it because it's in October and I am usually there June-July
