I don't want to grow up, but I do want to stay young and social with someone.. definitely. That could include kids as well. I refuse to be one of the people who coops up and gets super private and all that. Honestly, I think people are way too introverted for their own good..literally screwed in the head. Secondly, the nuclear family dollhouse fantasy thing... has to go. There are 6 billion people in the world. Start having fun with more than 2 of them.
My parents had parties, friends over, and just were social in general all the time while I grew up. I'll do the same thing or be damned.
To sum it all up: Nobody likes a Yoko Ono.

Oh lord, you know what I don't understand either?
"Guys night out.."
"Girls night out.."
Give me a break! Just go out and stop making a big deal about it. Sometimes when I see a friend say something like that, it makes me NOT want to hang out with them. It doesn't get much dorkier than that.

I never actually call those that, but they still are what they are. You can say things and do things with a bunch of girls out that you can't do or say in mixed company. Which is fun for the freedom of it. But it's never planned that way.

Yeah, but just do it y'know (which is what you're doing). Don't make it some ritual to socialize and have fun. My rant isn't against having time with those of the same gender... it's just the whole ritual of the thing, the need to label socializing and fun. If it's gotten to that point, then you are some kind of sitcom parody of square domesticated lameness. And not fun at all.

Well that just it- our generation and our parents' generation learned all about social interaction from TV.

i've become a paragon of lameness at the ripe old age of 26.my 10 year old nephew was miserably embarassed that aunt jun walked him in to class (he's developementally delayed, otherwise i'd have let him go by himself.)when he figured out he wasn't going to shake me till he walked in the room,he rolls his eyes and says in this anguished voice,'well, just pretend you're a teacher or something.' it doesn't get much more grown-up than being an embarassment to the next generation! it's not realy going to hurt my feelings until my stepson's old enough to find me embarassing.i'm already hopelessly uncool, but not yet embarassing on that front. also,i have to say-family life has a way of engulfing and individual.it's awesome that stray's parents were able to maintain an active social life, but it's not easy.i know it might sound trite to call it 'girl's/guy's' night out,but it feels like a special occasion not to have to sensor yourself around kids or men, even the ones you love most.it can be nice to make it seem like more of a ritualized, special thing.

Well, like I said, I don't have anything against exclusive behavior/things to talk about for those of one's gender. I didn't mean to sound that way. I'm just griping about the idea of having set nights to socialize in general. It's more of a complaint against "___ night out" really. It's so formal. Just have a night out whenever you can instead. Or invite someone over. Have a party. Or at least dinner and rent some movies with friends. Or just have some bullsh*t talk on the porch with a bottle of wine. Whatever.

oh,i'm not blaming you, everyone's entitled to their opinion.i just like the label because for me it's become synonymous with,'time to act like i'm not really a fuddy-duddy' i guess because in my environment there's a lot of opportunity for socializing with friends and their kids,or more rarely just grown ups,but time for just the girls (or boys) is rarest of all.

If you don't want to grow up your a coward! If you can't tell the difference between "your" and "you're" then you're not a grown up either. ;D See, I'm never going to be a mommy, if I ever did I'd be one of those really nit-picky overbearing mothers, I just know it.

^Are you drunk? You should not suggest there is a correlation between immaturity and cowardice. If that's so, I guess that makes you a huge coward.

I've sacrificed too many years in school to be trapped by marriage in the future.
