If I weren't mistaken I'd say you were a one dropist. Because you sure as hell sound like it. You're either a biased eurasian that grew up on the wrong side of the bed or your probably a troll that hates seeing mixed people go out and get something for themselves. You saying Obama is viewed as black is actually wrong. A recent study showed that of white and hispanic individuals about 75% of them view him as mixed. When it came to blacks it was lower, something like 60%, nonetheles despite the media one dropist propoganda and proponentsl ike yourself seejayeff people obviously aren't stupid. The same goes for Tiger. And for the record, I personally don't know anyone who thinks Tiger IS JUST BLACK. How can you refute those asian eyes and that asiany look to him. He is mixed, it's you who needs to enter the 21st century... You want to compare Tiger Woods, a GOLFER, to our President? Be my guest. A foolish comparison at best. Regardless of what Tiger says about his race, he's viewed as a Black man in a white sport. Obama understands he's viewed as black. He also understands that the Black community helped him get there. The African American community is completely different from the Asian community. Many blacks are mixed with European ancestry, but they are united by the way they have been treated due to their phenotype. Maybe it's time EA's stop pretending that we get treated like whites, because we're obviously seen as Asian in the USA. Me a one dropist? Sure thing buddy. I just deal with reality. The overwhelming majority of people will lump you with one race. That's just how it is. When Obama hails a Taxi cab, they don't think, 'here's a mulatto man'...most people think 'here's a black man'. I'm a one dropist? One drop is a REALITY in America. Obama realizes that. Obama has acknowledged being mixed, but he'll identify himself as African American because the term is general in referring to people with African blood. I'm just living in reality. Most Americans don't think of you as half white half Asian. most will lump you with one race, and it will most likely be your MINORITY race. Rather than shying away with it, embrace it. If you're being oppressed because somebody sees you as Asian, then join their side.

or if there is some sort of secret agenda by monoracials. Really? REALLY? I must admit, the thought is almost kind of beautiful in a twisted, Watchmen-esque way- blacks, whites, Asians and Latinos hand in hand, burying centuries of animosity in order to unite against the giant alien squid of miscegenation.

Back in the day, the enlightened railed against racial segregation in much that same way as people do today. There was one difference though - people's of different colour should be free as the next man to do as they pleased, to go where they wanted to, to be equal in almost every sense - just as long as they didn't have babies with each other. In fact, this premise went so far as to condone consorting with the opposite sex regardless of race, as long as there was nothing as unsavory as mixed baby to show for their brazen but open-minded exploits. "A mixed baby?! God forbid!!" Hmmm...the giant alien squid of miscegenation as personified by the mixed race child? The devil's child indeed. "That the marriage between Caroline and Wung Pi Zu-chiu survived despite defying ‘international convention’ was because they dared not risk the mixed birth stream, and forebore to parent the children for which they both longed. Louise Jordan Miln, ' By Soochow Waters' (1929) Sorry for the slight aside.

Well I suppose people like Tiger Woods and Hines Ward are living another reality then? Your kind of train of thought is exactly what supported slavery and racist attitudes. You claim things are so stagnant but if we look at history it's been the exact opposite. The only thing that remains constant as many historians and professionals in other fields like to say is "CHANGE." When I look at Obama I see a mulatto man and I know a lot of others who do too. He may not identify as it but hey that's his personal choice. I still question his validity as a "representative" of mixed people...puhleez..you don't speak for me or the rest of America that is shifting it's view towards embracing biracial/mixed people. By the way I'm not shying away from anything. And why can't I embrace both sides? Just cause you like to "one drop" yourself, doesn't mean I or many others on here should. Are you white by the way...you picture looks it..lol If I weren't mistaken I'd say you were a one dropist. Because you sure as hell sound like it. You win in sophistry...or not Embrace both sides all you want, it doesn't mean they'll both embrace you equally. Obama received 95% of the Black vote, and received lower than usual turnout for the white vote. Frederic Douglas was half black half white, yet is seen as an African American by historians due to how he was treated. You're very naive and have this belief that everybody knows about mixed race people. The majority of America lumps you in with one race. You can fight them all you want but in the end, you're not white, so stop trying to be it.

again, i think it's a fallacy to compare our experience to the mixed african american one. like i said, their caucasian side doesn't emerge in the same way as it does with us. their african physical traits seem to be more dominant. i've never met a half black person who still wasn't dark complected or had thick distinctly african hair. people still bundle them as black solely because those features make it so easy for them to.
in short, it's probably a bigger hassle being half black.
that said, some of us get the bulk of our asian features - that do make us look more asian than not - where they make people categorize us easily.. but it's not across the board really. some people are like that. some aren't. some might, just to use some of this site's examples, lean towards more asian features like kyu-ree or yourself, and some might be a little more white like paddy or robyn, some may be just either way, like me or black mamba. i don't know.. could be to do with what kind of asians we are? i know that we all don't have the same experiences though. i know i don't need to "accept" any pigeonholing done to me precisely because i barely have experienced that.
no need to rage against the machine for no reason. and no reason to "accept" that i'm asian when i'm simply not. i'm both asian and white. i can accept both. to hell with what anyone else thinks. it's what i am. in reality. in fact. not in my imagination. i just didn't wake up and start make believing i had a white dad. i DO have a white dad just as much as i have an asian mom. and even IF i did get categorized a lot, i would still insist on that. the only thing that would make me "accept" that i'm just asian is if my dad was a jerk, if my caucasian family were jerks, and i wanted to disown them. then i'd probably start saying i was only asian, and accepting one side of myself. as it is though, i love my dad just as much as my mom. they make me who i am. i see no reason to deny anything.

I think Obama's a good role model to everyone... seems like a very gracious, family oriented guy (and smart obviously). It's interesting, I've never really sought any mixed race role models. I guess because when seeking a role model my main criteria are intellect and character traits.

that's all i wanted to say in the beginning of this thread. he's chill. a cool headed PERSON. if the way he campaigned is indicative of his character in general, then it'd be good if anyone adopted some of his traits.
as for the rest, i hate to be rude, but... to hell with "racial role models". your role models should or could be anyone. any race. just people. hell, even a damn cartoon character. the world wouldn't be so bad if we all followed donald duck too.

I'll concede that, but I'm not familiar with any. When I think half black, I guess what comes to mind are a few kids I know, and some people I went to school with. In celebrity terms, I think of, say, Halle Berry or Lenny Kravitz. Who many people would mistake as black too. Who get honored as accomplished strictly "African Americans", just like Barack Obama does.

^I honestly think Halle Berry looks more white than black. Obviously mixed, but to me the Euro sticks out more. I don't understand entirely why half black Americans always tout themselves as black. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's like they usually completely ignore the rest of themselves. Maybe because they don't want to be considered whitewashed by paying any attention to the part of them that's not black?
