If you really don't want to do a selfless act, but do it anyway because you know it's right (or feel like you have to), are you selfish? Do feelings/intentions play a part in whether one is selfish or not? Or is it something only measured by the actions one takes?

There's a certain degree of selfishness and greed that are actually beneficial. I've done the whole spectrum and found a tiny dose of it keeps me focused on my own needs and areas for development but not so much I lose heart for other people's concerns. I was really unhappy when I was as selfless as I could be. Everyone else was really unhappy when I was totally focused on myself.

"Viva Yo!" is considered an acceptable, and possibly attractive trait in Spain, contrasting with the community consciousness in the Far East.
