nemesisgalofdoom, you really seem to have it out for androgeny in general. I thought at first it was a simple preference for manly men (and feminine women), but now that you have extended it to the realm of language I'm not sure what to make of it. Do you also hate manly cars in hot pink and frilly feminine dresses in manly colors (like forest green, gray, dark burgundy, and navy)? I don't think u to know my preferences that good, only because I dont like metrosexual style (men with tons of hairgel etc.........) - something wrong about it ? I don*t know where u put your limit, but speaking of feminine female: u should come to the place I'm living, how many women run around, it is horrifying awful, u hardly can see the difference between female and men. u will never see that in Japan, for instance, and I can*t think to see this is another Asian countries aswell. I*ll post some examples by chance if I find a picture :-P And for the colors: I love pink, gray and navy, those are my colors .... ;D btw: Alex is a pretty name to me also, it must be thos exceptions

The superficiality of EAN (or is it just teenagers and early 20s folk?) never ceases to amaze me.
Why discriminate against anyone based on something they have zero control over?
e.g., - name they were given - height - looks (vs appearances.... the latter we do control) - etc etc
sorry, but beyond the initial laugh/wince, i think this points to extreme stupidity and i think very low of ppl who make serious judgements/decisions of others (e.g., relationship material?) on the basis of things, esp superficial ones, which the person in question has zero control over.

Please do! I'm curious what you find "horrifying awful," though maybe you just have a gift for over-statement or are getting lost in translation. So what is your policy on men wearing pink shirts?
In any case, I'm not judging - there's nothing wrong with begin unattracted to metrosexuals (or for that matter, homosexuals, who were after all the original metros). I was just wondering whether/if that relates to your dislike of gender-ambiguous names.

I don*t think that anyone in here is up to judge someone for matter they can*t control over - neither I can't control it and know/feel how it is (looks etc.......) - but this is a very interesting topic, its something that I*ve never consciously thinked about.
I'm just thinking what I*d have felt or done it I fell in love with somebody whos last name is "Fickeisen" (an existing surname in Germany, Fick = f.uck and Eisen = iron or "Kotz" that means vomit/throw-up) U def be teased as a kid with those surnames.
@ beta
no policy or hatred on men in pink, maybe lost translation - I'm just direct and honest about my preference, thats all - do I need policy for percepting something attractive or not ? I dont.
Yep, I'm still looking for some examples for a horrifying (German) style.

I have an ugly name, I had thought of changing it in the past since I always stood out. It's not a name people are used to, or used to pronouncing at that.

Meh, a name is a name - how it aesthetically sounds shouldn't be important.
If a name's aesthetics really matter that much to someone, I question that person's superficiality and/or maturity. Why? Simply because there are far more important things to worry about in life than a mere name, especially when it comes to dating someone, if that person is actually legit about dating.
Like halfbreed said, if you look at their character and are drawn to it (and I'm not even necessarily talking about a gf/bf now, but anyone like a friend, colleague etc), then their name can appear more attractive if it otherwise wouldn't on first glance, simply because they as an overall person become more attractive once you approve of their character.
I judge someone by the content of their character, rather than the outside of their name.
I don't listen to names or read them and think, 'ugly'.
However, I have been told of a few names from the world of hollywood (mainly children of stars) that sound different/unique, but if the people with these names are good people, then any potential stigma surrounding their names would and should quickly disappear. On the contrary, I'm not denying that there are some names out there that sound aesthetically pleasing (and I'm not just speaking in terms of people you look at that could be a potential partner in a relationship), but again, it's shouldn't be a big deal, as there are far more important factors that should determine how you look at someone, with a mere name being amongst the least of these things. Plus, if worst really does come to worst, then nicknames can be used, however I would encourage people to question themselves as to how they would feel if someone wanted to call you a nickname for the sole purpose of not having to call you how you like to be called because your name doesn't sound aesthetically pleasing to them (as opposed to coming up with a nickname for the sake of creating a closer bond etc).

What*s your name ...? ;D Same name as my user, but in actual fact it's spelled on my birth cert SubuGatai, which is using old translation from Oirat Mongol to English. I always thought of changing it to something short and sweet like Jebe. But it's too much of a hassle since I can't change the name on my birth cert.
