I remember Rob listing a bunch of jobs he had that were temp. or 'first job' in nature. I also remember somewhere reading all the jobs Robert DeNiro had in NY before he made it. I had a bunch of jobs before college, including: 1. Tutor 2. Deli sandwich maker / Grocery Stocker / Cashier 3. Shoe Salesperson / Manager So what kind of jobs have you done, and, what kind of jobs WOULD you do? ..and of course, circling back to Rob and his past jobs: So what kind of jobs have you done, and, what kind of jobs WOULD you do?

Best job I ever had was during the holidays when I was at uni. Spent a summer working with a tree surgeon. Unfortunately, I didn't get to climb the trees, but it was great hungry work. I'd hack trees up at day, then in the evening I would eat and eat and eat, and sleep like I never had. Nothing like hard physical work in the sun.
We worked for these rich clients who lived in posh London townhouses. They had no direct access to their gardens, so we'd have to cut the trees small and haul them through the house which was cool cause we got to see how the rich and powerful live in London.

My first job when I was 17 was a shop assistant in a pharmacy. I used to tell people I sold drugs.

My first job was a paper route that I took over for a friend. Sucked. Got cornered by a dog once. Fun.
My next job was when I was 14 or 15, and I was a janitor at my old elementary school for a summer. It wasn't bad; I didn't have to do down and dirty janitorial stuff. Just wipe tables, stack chairs, vacuum, etc.
I was a telemarketer for a day. I just didn't come back the next day, it sucked SO bad. I also delivered fliers door to door. And I was a data entry clerk for telemarketers (which isn't nearly as bad as being an actual telemarketer -- you know those sweepstakes entries for a boat or RV? I entered those in). I worked for Packard Bell as an ASSISTANT admin assistant. My boss was hot. I loved her and her janky-ass RX-7.
I've worked for Pacific Bell (now AT&T) as a customer service rep for repairs (you dial 611). You wouldn't believe the cavalcade of insanity that would call in. "YOU'RE TAPPING MY PHONE" (was true one time!) or "FIX THIS PAYPHONE! I CONDUCT BUSINESS FROM IT!" (sure thing buddy).
Also did a stint with Sacramento County at voter registration. Kind of like the data entry gig. Type in voter registration card info and also petition signatures. We caught one dude signing PAGES of petitions himself (they get money for each signature they get). Lots of weird people working for the county...
My college workstudy jobs included working at the main library cataloging new, incoming books and daydreaming about nailing my coworker in the book stacks. Then I worked for the film school fixing audio equipment, and the occasional personal items. This was the best job. Lots of autonomy and tinkering with electronics, and practical application of electrical engineering.
That led to my first real job, which was basically my workstudy position, just full-time. I was fully self-sufficient! Except for the exorbitant amount of debt I was in. But it led to my present job, which is fixing, maintaining, and teaching people how to use audio equipment for a post production facility. And some IT work, too.
I don't think I could ever do sales. Not good at it. Would get fired immediately.
I would do food service, if I had to. Although, I'm kind of mouthy and it seems that is the kind of job that wouldn't tolerate it that much.
I've thought about being a commercial pilot -- not necessarily an airline pilot, but flying for money. Air taxi, short haul cargo, traffic watch, drug runner (heh). They make s*** money, but it would be fun!

during high school/uni times: i've done waitressing at a Thai restaurant and also at a leisure centre cafe, changing room assistant at a posh fitness centre, voice recorder for english language text book, cold-call marketing..
the best 'temp job' i heard of was one of my best friends at uni, he spent the summer at a pea factory, picking out bad peas off a conveyor belt.

Well, my best temp job is the one I have right now. I'm working with Fox Media on their coverage of the English Premier League football (soccer). Basically, I go along to games and help out with their pre-match set-up. I put out a giant Barclays banner on the centre circle and stand by a Barclays board while the players shake hands before kick off. I then get paid to watch the game from the edge of the pitch. Claims to fame are that I've been on Match of the Day too many times to count, I did a 1-2 with Scott Parker, Got evils from Frank Lampard and Craig Bellamy, had a chat with Phil Brown on the centre circle and Nemanja Vidic passed the ball to my girlfriend during a game. I mostly go to West Ham games, but have been to a few Chelsea games. Here's a pic I took of Rafael da Silva (Manchester United) and Jack Collison (West Ham). We all got in trouble because of my camera - the press cameramen were jealous of my vantage point and we all got a wigging.
