I've never had incredibly aggressive behaviour towards me from full-blooded Chinese or other East Asians. The worst I've had was merely receiving the 'angry stare' from elderly Chinese. Something very easy to brush off and take in your stride.
Younger East Asian people are different. They either don't care, or will show that they are curious, but usually don't approach. I had an East Asian man stalk me through a shopping mall once. It was very obvious as he kept walking back and forth with his kid in a pushchair, gawping at me while I ate my lunch. I eat very slowly, so you can imagine how long he was marching back and forth with his eyes glued to me. It was awkward, but also hilarious.
I've had the most frightening and violent reactions from white British people (where I grew up), but it was mainly because they thought I was Chinese and not because I was mixed... not that there's much of a difference. It's still racism.

The thing that happens to me and it is more than once now is random people will yell at me ,"You're White!!!" As if yelling it will make it so. Or does my light skin and asian eyes really bother them so much they have to put me in their categories? This happened to me from a group of children in a park. It was said with a great deal of hostility.
I am fairly certain this sort of thing does not happen to 'pure' whites.
Used to be in Texas years ago, whites called me "almost white" and other such things.

^ Hmm you have asian eyes? By looking at the picture of you...no offense, it doesn't look very asian to me. Maybe just a little, but looks mostly white.

I knew someone would reply this way.
Yes it did offend me. You seemed to ignore my statements about my experiences with racism in my post.
The point is I look ALMOST white -- yet other people still think it is THEIR right to define me.
As an adoptee I grew up in a home where I was subjected to asian racial slurs by other family members and people asking "where did you get that one from" to my parents.
I deal with this ALMOST white crap every day, and I am hoping to find a supportive community of other people who have eurasian traits if not culture.

You took offense to a statement that your picture "doesn't look very asian to me. Maybe just a little, but looks mostly white" when your own statement is "The point is I look ALMOST white"? Really, you say you knew that someone would respond "this way", but what do you mean by "this way?" You posted a picture and asked for comments, and when you get a comment that verifies your own perception of your looks, you get offended. This makes no sense to me. Since you are adopted, you can't really know from any kind of oral history or examination of your parents what your background might be. That is why I suggested that you get a DNA test - they are not completely accurate, but they would answer a lot of questions for you. Since this has clearly been an issue for you for a long time, it seems like it would be money well-spent. I empathize with your dealing with the "almost white" crap - do you really deal with it *every* day? Anyway, while it's a mystery as to what binds people together here at this forum, I am not sure that it's 'Eurasian Traits' (if by that you mean appearance), as we have some members who look whiter that you do and some who look almost entirely Asian. I think it's really more of the experience of growing up with two cultures, two families, and all the enlightenment, stress, and humor that produces. That's just my guess, though, after six years of observation. I haven't really seen too much of a supportive circle for people who get teased for looking Asian or, more specifically, something off-white. Here's Charles Bronson (a Lithuanian): I am sure he got some "Your grandfather was Chinese!" taunts as a kid for how he looked. I don't see, though, how that automatically bonds him with someone growing up in a mixed white/asian household. Though I am admin here, I don't write this from that perspective - this is only my opinion as a single person and I am as curious as I am sure you are to hear other opinions.

Yes its everyday that I get various racial slurs.
yeah, Charles Bronson is my homeboy we both are from PA.
I have two different stories about my birthdad. One is he is Turk/Tatar the other Chinese.
The statement offends me when people try to pigenhole me into a category. Maybe I do it too. I don't know, the thing is people say you can't be Asian to me yet at the same time telling me I can't be White either. soooo. That leaves me in limbo land which is the whole point.
I know about the DNA tests, they are expensive. Peace.
Also I was not raised in any sort of Asian culture, so maybe you are implying I do not belong here on this forum?
Regardless I am Eurasian.....

Danyc, well, I'm sorry if thatttt actually offended you. We do that stuff on EAN. We even have a thread dedicated to "dissecting our traits." No one seems to have been offended if someone says a comment like what I said. Wow, this is the first time I've ever heard someone take offense to that. I am NOT saying that you are NOT Eurasian. I am just saying that it is your appearance. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I am not pushing you to believe that you are not who you are. Just know that you are and that is fine. If you say you are Eurasian, then okay, you are. I have no right to say that you aren't. If you didn't want any comments regarding your looks, then don't post up your picture and don't say that other people say you have "asian eyes" but get so offended when one person says you don't really have it. And if you hadn't said something about others saying you have "asian eyes", I wouldn't even have made any comment what so ever about your looks. I usually don't. Even if your eyes aren't very asian, that doesn't mean other traits, your other features, your culture, upbringing, and your blood isn't. As an eurasian, you get all sorts of comments. Some people think completely differently about your looks than others, as you have found out. Also, you said that you have experienced a lot of situations being that you're 48 years old..you should have experienced things way, way worse than what I said and my comment wasn't an attack on your background at all! I also said it is from that picture that your eyes don't look very asian. Eurasians can look different all the time-angles, lighting, whatever. And I did not say your eyes don't look Asian at all, I said a little, so what is wrong with it being "a little" asian? There is so so much variety in Eurasian looks! I seriously did not think you would take offense to that. It is just kind of a habit for me to say "no offense" before I say something about a person, but I know that some people actually do take offense when I say it. So I guess I shouldn't say it anymore now that I think about it. Again, if it offended you that much, then I'm truly sorry, just that you are the first one to be offended by something harmless that I said. We are open about these things here.

I don't know, the thing is people say you can't be Asian to me yet at the same time telling me I can't be White either. soooo. That leaves me in limbo land which is the whole point. If you are expecting ignorant people who contradict themselves to somehow 'see the light', I'd say that's not likely to happen. Your best bet for peace is to control your own reaction to them - that's been my experience. I mean, seriously, how else can you respond to "Learn you some English and take you ass back to Messko" kind of talk? The IRA would 'Inflict and Endure' - sometimes the smart move is to ignore and ignore. Anyway, it's a lot easier to change your attitude than it is to change someone else's behavior. This forum focuses on life and issues for people with Asian and Caucasian mixed backgrounds. Most of the people visit here have that background with immediate or one generation removed disparate cultures - one Asian, one not. We have members who are Asian and African-American and they certainly belong here although the name of the forum and the historical focus do not mention them, they are absolutely not excluded and have much to contribute and share. Congratulations, it's good to be secure in who you are. It's also good you are not looking for validation because none of us can give you that. Eurasian as it has been used here is meaning a recent mix, not someone from Eurasia. For example, my niece is Bashkir and is "Eurasian", but not at all the kind of "Eurasian" that this site was created to serve. There also are some long-established mixed-Asian communities, such as the Spanish Mestizos in the Philippines, the Sri Lankan Burghers, the Peranakans from Malaysia and Singapore, etc., and while it's possible those folks might find some camaraderie here, so far they have not. We don't claim to have the only definition of Eurasian, we don't invalidate other definitions, and don't consider our definition as the best. However it is the de facto definition for use here and both reflects and governs the focus of our membership and discussion. You'll have to decide for yourself is this forum is for you.

Do we have a thread for hyper-aggressive Eurasians? I'm thinking of starting a What kind of complex do you have? thread. All related to being multiracial of course. Need some poll selections though...

^ There's one suggestion: The Life Is Beautiful Complex. Hiding your despair beneath an impenetrable layer of bubbliness or humor for the sake of others. The Hype for Life Complex I'm not so sure about. Could be the same complex, could be sugar, could be sex.

There's so much I could say about this subject from food anthropology to the smell of Good 'N Plenty. But I'm going to skip those links and drawn out explanations. Once again I'm going to implicate your boyfriend.
