I've been thinking about posting on this subject for a while...
Well, as news about this new law are everywhere (at least in Mexico and the US), I guess it's not needed to say a lot about the law itself. I just want to know your opinions on this subject...
For example the issue of profiling... I've read on AP news and on CNN that policemen are being trained to properly enforce this new law and avoid racial profiling... but I'm quite sure that no matter how much trained they are, skin colour and clothing will be a major factor for them to have "reasonable suspicion".
Which pros and cons does this law have in your opinion??

No pros really, except that it may give us another immigration reform bill (re: amnesty) sooner than later and that would be a good thing.
As I understand it the law as written sort of makes sense - if you are suspecting someone for another crime (or actually charging them?) you are then allowed to check their immigration status. That is, "reasonable suspicion" has to involve breaking the law in some other way first, though of course, an illegal immigrant with forged documents is ALWAYS technically breaking the law every time they drive a car or open a bank account or commit some other kind of fraud (that is, beyond simply being physically in the US illegally). It seems to me like if the law was merely restricted to people charged with crimes (above a certain threshold, say, maybe not a parking ticket but maybe at the level of drunk driving) being deported it would be less objectionable, but I think that already happens anyway.

As I understand it the law as written sort of makes sense - if you are suspecting someone for another crime (or actually charging them?) you are then allowed to check their immigration status. This is why police officers don't like the law. No witnesses will step forward or cooperate with law enforcement because they'll get deported for their trouble. Personally, I think this law is pretty f**king racist. They didn't just target undocumented workers, they targeted Hispanic culture by banning ethnic studies which they see as "advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government". It isn't about overthowing the government. They just want to keep white people in charge even when they become a minority. This is their way showing minorities who is in charge, like interning the Japanese, or jailing the blacks under the new Jim Crow. The Constitution never was written for "all men". Your rights end where their prejudices begin.

I'm actually having trouble being angry at Arizona. Don't necessarily agree with the law, but I was just there for some months and the place is really nice. Hell, I'm trying to go back there.
Don't care about politics anymore, I guess. Wonder how this'll affect prices in the state and people who had gotten used to cheap labor.

I do not support illegal immigration but this law is the wrong way to go about handling the problem. It is unconstitutional and offensive. Anyway, Federal Judge Bolton shot down the major parts of SB 1070 on Wednesday! She ruled that requiring police officers to check the immigration status of anyone they stop, arrest or suspect is an illegal alien would unnecessarily burden legal immigrants. She also ruled that individual states do not have the right to enact this kind of immigration law. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens once it gets to the supreme court... I just hope it is resolved soon. As someone who is "hispanic looking", all the fighting over this law scares the s*** out of me. Because crazy people who are gripped by anti-immigrant hysteria aren't going to care whether you're legal or illegal before they beat you up. Is Arizona really a nice place, monroe?
