Has anyone been watching this documentary on WWII on PBS? It's really interesting, and also crazy to think that 60 million people died in that war.

The Ken Burns 15 hr doc? Fantastic! I'm no history buff, but there was so much footage there that I hadn't seen before.. I watched the whole series and I recommend it to anyone who gets the chance. It focused on a limited number of personal narratives instead of trying to encapsulate the entire war.. made for more emotional salience I would say. I got misty-eyed at times and I ain't no emo kid.
60 million dead is incomprehensible isn't it? Anyone know the # of wounded? I haven't been able to find a consensus on that number.
@floyd - tell me something that isn't commodified these days.. war will always be mere abstraction for those of us on the sidelines, don't you think?

Yeah it has been great. Its made me think about how little my life has been affected by the war in Iraq. Back then people had to ration food, make sacrifices, "roll their sleeves up." I can't think of one change I've made because of the war. And WWII was only 60 years ago.

^ Yeah and that's why this whole Iraq war is such a farce.

Was so funny today. I was watching Glenn Beck on Headline News and there was this Evangelical Christian preacher on and he was talking about prophecy. And one of his known true future wars was with a billion Chinese or so marching on the Euphrates to destroy Israel. The Chinese wanted Oil! Hate to be Asian in America....I thought. Whew!
