my mum is Asian, but she isn't embarassing at all but my stepfather's mum was really embarassing, she spoke Russian with lots of mistakes and when my friends called and she answered the phone , they couldn't understand sometimes where I were at the moment(because of her wrong explanation) ;D

For me both parents take the cake for being embarrasing! Mum is Japanese - she has this naivety about certain things that just makes you laugh. Wish I had a good example of this, but I don't at the moment. My father on the otherhand (American) can be pretty loud and obnoxious, which makes him stand out especially here in Australia. Oooo..actually, it was really embarrasing when we first arrived here about 15 years ago and he tried to say things like "G'day" & "fairdinkum"...there are not even too many Sydney-siders that say that!

There's a famous restaurant in Hilo where they first started making Loco Moco. I forget the name- I think it had something to do with WWII? Anyway, I remember going there on vacation, and just really enjoying myself. Plus spam musubi! The best spam musubi ever is at the gas station (Exxon?) right South of Kona Airport on the Queen Kaahumanu highway (I think it's named after the queen, right?) UPDATE: Found it! Cafe 100. www.dailycelebrations.com/041802.htm

" However, Cafe 100 (969 Kilauea Avenue, 935-8683) in Hilo is recognized today as the place to get loco moco. The local-style eatery has one of the more extensive loco-moco menus featuring some twenty varieties. According to Gloria Kobayashi, co-manager of Cafe 100, "Besides our regular loco-moco (with hamburger and egg) the most popular versions are the 'Super' and the 'Kilauea'." The Super Loco-Moco consists of a bowl of rice, two eggs, hamburger patty, a slice of spam and Portuguese sausage. The Kilauea Loco-Moco has a bowl of rice, two eggs, hamburger patty, a slice of spam, four smoky link sausages, a scoop of chili on the rice and a small side of Korean kim chee and a scoop of macaroni salad. And it's only $4. It's a very filling, hard to beat breakfast or lunch bargain. Loco-moco comes in small and large versions and usually range from $3-6. So it's not a budget-breaker. This thread is pretty interesting! My parents are Japanese and German which are both known for not expressing their emotions, and they aren't so annoying. I was embarrassed when my german mother scolded me in funny Japanese in public, though.

embarassing mothers........... ack.. my mum is making me call up a bunch of HER friends to let them know im in hk.. as a curtesy and my mums like.. they will take you out to nice expensive places for tea bla bla........ WTH??? i dotn care.. im in hk for 1 week, the last thing i want is excruciating awkward meetings with my mum's friends who i hardly know.. theres so much shopping and other stuff i need to here! anyway, so i called up 1 last night, that i actually know quite well.. and her husband picks up and so i say 'hi... XX its helen.. how are you..' he was like.. '...helen ??' yeah exactly.. how the heck are they supposed to know who i am? so ive decided to keep my mum happy to call like 2 and the rest are 'accidently' not around..

I can relate.. my mom (pinay) gets really loud when talking on the cellphone.. I usually cover my ears coz she's so loud but she doesn't even notice.. I recently saw something on TV (don't remember the name of the show) whateva there was this EA guy and his parents were nudists.. and his asian mother was sitting at a table half naked telling the story of her son pooing while climbing over a fence.. "You could see the poopoo fall down, hihi haha (really nasty grin), isn't it funny son? hihi haha" You could see the look on his face he was so pissed.. I'd surely be pissed too if my mom would tell embarassing poo stories about me on TV..

Its like when im on holiday im meant to have a whole party of people showing me round. Whenever im down in the city she organizes all of the people she knows to come and have lunch with us and then were supposed to all go shopping together. It doesnt work when two dozen of us cruise in and out of shops.

jeymi i hate those people who just swarm arround stores and block walk ways while carrying on trivial conversations. Can't they understand that a supermarket or any other retal outlet is simply a place of business where you purchase goods and then get out. Every weekend my job is made that little bit more frustrating by people who just stand infront of areas that I need to fill with stock. Sometimes I just want to get a cattle prod and poke every person who stays idle for more than 2 minutes. That's the sad thing about society, people today are essentially human cattle.

And don't you love the people who stand right smack in the middle of the sidewalk or in the middle of the mall where people are trying to walk to actually get somewhere? Standing there consulting their maps, or yaking on their cellphones, or just plain out standing there doing absolutely nothing. It's so NOT hard to walk to the side when you're slowing down traffic. They seriously bother me...
