Have you ever dated, are friends with or have the condition of being bipolar?
What were your experiences?

An ex of mine was bipolar, unbeknownst to me while we were dating. It was only after I broke up with him did he tell me he was bipolar in the process of stalking me, which did explain some things. To put it lightly, he was quite a nutjob. Then again, he had an extensive history with drug/substance abuse, being in and out(and back in) of rehab centers etc. which took its toll on him, so not sure if I'd attribute his tendencies to that or to his bipolarity. At the time I first got with him, he said he'd been clean for about a year, so I took his word at face value. In the process of dating him though, he seemed shady, as though he was hiding something(s), and there was an incident where my folks and I caught him while he was high, which he downplayed. Haven't had any personal experiences with other bipolar people so far.

TeeHee - the problems is that symptoms overlap, there are only a limited number of ways to express pathology, and he may well have been suffering from bipolar mood disorder, but he may also have been suffering from something else, like a severe personality disorder which can often manifest marked mood instability. There can be a problem with what is the primary diagnosis. If there is recreational drug abuse, the picture becomes more confusing, but it does make personality disorder more likely. However, personality disorder can have bipolar mood disorder in its own right. I know its confusing. Sorry.

^well drug abuse can be a coping behavior to deal with bipolar condition
I had two guys like me but was bipolar. Trying to avoid drama in my life so I had to unfortunately limit my time with them. They often talk about if they tell people they always get treated different by bias. kinda sad.
But they started talking to themselves
Like that movie A Beautiful Mind with that aussie guy

I think my cousin is bipolar. I think sometimes he gets feeling low. I try to interact with him on a regular basis. I feel from my own experiences that isolation is thing that builds depression. Anyway, he's pretty cool so I enjoy talking with him.

I don't know anyone with bipolar personally but I have spoken to bipolar people over the phone. It's really difficult trying to end a call with a bipolar person when they're in a manic state because they won't let you get a word in. I imagine it would be difficult to be around them when they're like that.

I've been stalked and she even threatened to commit suicide if I left her. =/
Which I did, for someone else... and I had to get her mum to keep an eye on her o.O

This is interesting I thought I was the only one? ...Approximately 4.4 percent of U.S. adults may have some form of bipolar disorder during some point in their lifetime, ...www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/70208.phpSo, let's say you have dated three people...that gives you a 13% chance of dating a bipolar person even though they may not have been in that state at the time. So, what, around 1 out of 8 posters here would have the same experience?
