LMAO!!! Well I don't really have any problems with ethnic restaurants, though I had one problem with a KFC store once when I came to Sydney. Not only was I surprised they didn't have hot and spicy, but they wouldn't forfill my requests! Me: I'll have a 5-piece feed, hot and spicy please Server: We only have a 3-piece feed, and hot and spicy??? Me: Yes hot and spicy chicken. Not original recipe. Server: We don't have hot and spicy here. Me: .... You DON'T have hot and spicy? Server: No we dont, and it's the same everywhere. Me: Well I just came from Perth and we have hot and spicy there. Server: Well thats Perth, we don't have hot and spicy here in Sydney. Me: Ok fine I'll just have the 5-piece feed then. Server: We only have 3-piece feed. Me: Then can you throw in two extra pieces of chicken? Server: No I can't but we can serve 'wicked wings'. Me: No I don't want that, I want a 5-piece feed, and no wings. Breasts or drumsticks only please. Server: I'm sorry we can't serve that we have many customers. Me: Oh forget it (walks to Hungry Jacks instead) Heh Ne ways... O.o Which ethnicity within Turkey?

LOL @ your dad 'tell this Greek kid', hehe. Good thing you didnt I see I see, though why not ask them directly. There's a very big and wondrous world that awaits you if you are Turk. Though, equally with many problems.

Hostess: Welcome. Me: 7:30 reservation for 2 under "Swinger"
Hostess: Follow me please. Would you like me to take your jackets? Me: Yes, thank you.
(Fantastic, no manufactured drama dinner follows)
Hostess: Thank you, have a nice evening! Me: Thank you, and the same for you.
I have great experiences out to eat because I pick the right places and the staff can tell by my demeanor that I am not trifling.

I wonder how many people have spat in your food. Mine? Probably none! I am VERY nice and a good tipper! Did you mean to ask me?

swinger Aha! Dinner for 2? Who's the girl? Heh! Well tonight I went to dinner with my friend and former business associate - not a girl. His fiance couldn't make it so it was just the two of us. Tomorrow night I am going out with my girlfriend, though. She doesn't get excited about fine dining the way I do - which is fine. I just go wherever she likes to go, be it fast food, buffets, or whatever. She's big on making me happy so I try and return the favor. I have plenty of opportunities to eat at places I like when we're not dining together. I like trifles myself - they're the bomba. Actually, bomba is the bomba - oh forget it

I keep my expectations low in restaurants since many/most earn minimum wage and put up with alot of crap.... that or english simply isn't their first language. Did have an interesting time at a restaurant in Holland Village in singapore though.... it was a set meal (you know, the whole soup/salad, main + dessert). I was pretty full after the main course and told the waitress (homely older lady - an "auntie") that I'd pass on the dessert. She gave me this look of seriousness and said "no, you need to have the dessert. It's a set meal". "But I don't want it" I replied... and then she insisted again "you really should have it. It's a set meal". There's wasn't a trace of humor/sarcasm in her voice/face and she just stood by the table with this stern look on her face. Whoa! Didn't want to piss her off so after exchanging a few puzzled looks with my friend, I succumbed and ordered the dessert. Um, ok, i'll have the dessert then <-- PWNED BY AUNTIE

Rob, you know this I am sure, but the old "My doctor told me..." gets you out of any drinking/eating obligation in Asia.

One of the servers in Cuba was joking around with us for the whole meal and when I didn't finish my pasta (something about pasta, huh?) he said "oh no, no dessert for you"! I knew he would call me out on it. He still brought the dessert, though.

Server: We don't have hot and spicy here. Me: .... You DON'T have hot and spicy? Before I begin...Wow. That's really sad. Pretty sure a large number of Thai people in Perth would be pretty upset if they moved to Sydney. To Flatop: Sorry if I sound rude. I really do not intend to be. From reading your stories, I think it could even be more beneficial to you if you were perhaps a bit more patient with the servers-a few of your stories sound like the waiters/waitress are just trying to be friendly. But I guess you have to be there to see the body language and such. But I know when I serve customers in retail/food, if they are nice/friendly I give them a slight discount/larger portion. So here's what really ticks me off.. COFFEE SNOBS [/u] So my friends brother works for this pretty trendy coffee shop. [called epic for the Perth goers] And so me and couple of my friends were doing a cafe crawl, where we tried to drink as much coffee and in as many places as possible. So we go into this coffee place where our mutal friend's brother work, and I ordered a iced coffee for me and my friend, cos we walked for about 20 minutes in stinking hot australian sun. And he goes to me "We dont serve iced coffee here" me: "Oh okay, erm just a sec I'll be back" Okay so I'm thinking maybe an affogato? But i should check with my friend to see what he wants. He comes over to us and is like yeah get an affogato I think you will like that. I KNOW! But I didn't want to say anything to be polite so we ordered one then. So the next day I'm talking to my friend [who is the brother of the guy who served us] and he is all like "I can't believe you ordered an iced coffee!" [btw his gf always orders iced coffees] "My brother couldn't stop laughing! He said not only did she order an ice coffee but she didn't have a back up plan." Now everytime I see his brother, he reminds me subtly of that moment. First it was through reminding my friend who reminded me, and then it was through telling other people while im next to him, and then the time he reminded me directly with other people around. I was like "at least im not a coffee snob." But he much rather be a coffee snob than order iced coffee. GRR. EDIT -sorry that was a rather long post.

I used to wait tables...it's a f**king hard job. And customers can be such anal, snarky sh*ts. I've spit in quite a few orders... yeaaah... this is why I never understand when people are rude to people who are handling their food. if you have to be an ass at least wait until you get your food! some people have no sense. at any rate, you have my sympathies. serving is one of the few jobs I never did, it just struck me as really stressful and annoying.

Haha! Did she scold you for not finishing it? haha - no thank God! But I hear the old lady stewardesses on Air Canada berate you if you don't eat your vegetables! Rob, you know this I am sure, but the old "My doctor told me..." gets you out of any drinking/eating obligation in Asia. Good one! (never heard it before actually)..... even better if you wear your Adidas track suit and tell your dinner date the edict came from the team doctor.
