I was just wondering if any of you inherited the gene for the Asian glow, since about 1/3 of East Asians or so supposedly have it. I don't get that red in the face, but I'm definitely the first one drunk or puking and I get awful stomach aches. My parents don't drink, so I don't know if I have the gene. I wonder if it's recessive and therefore "canceled out" by the white parent? Do any of you get the glow?

Thank god I did not inherit the gene. My father's side of the family drinks heavily, not so much my mother's. I drink weekly, but am a light weight. I think this has more to do with my size and weight rather than genes?

I don't get flushed when drinking, although I've known an eurasian that did.

I do get warm and red on the cheeks, depending on how strong the drink is and how fast I drink.. I also have to make sure I drink slowly, coz drinking fast in my teens always made me throw up ><' haven't really noticed it on my asian family, since they're darker than me...

all of my (Asian) family members are heavy flushers. Granparents were, all aunts and uncles are, most of my cousins are, my mum is and all my siblings are... I once turned blue across one cheek after half a beer on a half-empty stomach and that night got asked a lot whether someone had slapped me

Yea for the most part, it can actually be pretty embarrassing to have this as you don't get to have enough fun while your out with your friends or at a part. I use to suffer from this back in the day and I would hate the fact that I could only drink a couple of beers. But now I found this great product and I don't really worry about that anymore It works great

I don't get the flush until about the 6th beer and even then not too bad. I have a pretty good capacity for alcohol and hold it well, even when I'm drunk off my ass you can't tell. That was in my military days and the first few years after I got out. I don't drink that much anymore but I can still pack it away when I want to. I don't know whether that's my white side or what.

I get this really badly. I don't get any buzz from alcohol at all. Usually, after one drink I get the following:
- Red face and upper body, feels like head is on fire. Body gets hot and sweaty as well, but my head feels the worst. - Feel extremely dizzy and nauseated. - Bad headache. - Heart beats so hard and fast I feel like my whole body is on the verge of exploding. - Feeling as if I will pass out any second.
So I don't drink. A sip is fine, but even after such a small amount I start to feel an unpleasant burning headache. Doesn't bother me too much that I can't drink. Besides, I have heard those who get the Asian flush are at a higher risk for throat cancer if they drink alcohol regularly.
Trying to explain why I didn't drink to everyone when I was younger was a nuisance. Lots of people just saw it as a lame excuse because they had no idea how terrible it felt for me. It was even once implied that I should kill myself because my life must be so dull without being able to get drunk. Now that I'm older, people in general are more accepting, but I find it easier to just say I have an allergy and elaborate if they ask. However, I do still get the odd person who is not so understanding. e.g. I think I taste a lot of uncooked alcohol in a meal (after all, alcohol may as well be poison in my case, so I had better know what it tastes like!) and someone else cannot taste it so they assume I am paranoid and over-reacting.

I surprisingly do not feel drunk after 2 or 3 drinks until about two hours later. No Asian flush. First time I drank (3 months ago) I was surprised of my tolerance. But then I got sick the next day. Maybe that's a result of the first time or not drinking often?

my sister gets red as do most of my asian family. I don't and at one time was a pretty decent drinker for my weight. But alas, no more.
