Dear All Last Friday night, I was around the flat of my friend Boris and his sister Valeria was there too ;D After a while she started talking about how English I look and said I did not look like an EA This is not unusual as I don't but after a while Valeria started to come out with stereotypical observations about people who fit her views of how certain nationalities should look and how that as a latina, she did not have a latina backside (what ever that is?) and therefore was less Latina Personally, a lot of what she came out with I found was very shocking and at one point Valeria's talk sounded very much like some British imperialist ideology from the 19/20th century and at another point, a lot like what the racial therories that the Nazis came out before and during WW2 and how Russians are very Mongolian looking I said later on that I did not understand what she meant by typing nationality to certain characteristics and that her talk sounded very racist. This statement was lost on her Has anyone come anything similar Ps, I think that she might fancy me

She's not exactly racist, but just racialIST; one who puts too much emphasis on race etc but doesn't necessarily hate on them. There are quite a lot of them around; 'subtle racists'. All European imperialist ideologies are very similar, whether British, Nazi or Swedish. Unfortunately people are still taught it. All they do nowadays is say "You must read how we are superior, but yet don't be racist". I'm surprised this is the first time you've encountered someone like that.

I have met this thing before a long time ago but I suppose that I was unprepared for this time I told my Mother about it on Sunday at dinner and she said she used to hear it all the time in Hong Kong in the 1940's A lot of my friends are not like Valeria and I often avoid stereotyping discussions in general as I guess too that this is why I was taken by surprise Next time, I won't be so easily dragged in ;D

Nowadays I just give 'em a hard look, tell 'em "I don't talk race, and I don't talk religion". It shuts 'em up good, and it's interesting how they try to hastily change topic after it.

Living in a place where racial diversity is the rule (southern Italy), I haven't experienced it many times. But when I go to traditionally more racial homogeneous areas like Poland or North Italy, this kind of behaviour is the rule.

I don't think racism is a bad thing. It's just a scientific question of what race is superior. EG: White people are obviously superior on average to Asian people in height. Thus, height measurements are racist fact.
Like many things, the bad thing about racism isn't racism itself but what people do with it. Like nuclear power isn't bad, but humans find the need to unleash nuclear powered detonations in cities. It's not the science that's bad; it's the people.
Like people use nuclear technology to build and detonate nuclear bombs, they also use racism as a justification to discriminate against individuals. What's wrong isn't the racism; what's wrong is the discrimination against individuals.
Discriminating against individuals doesn't even make logical sense like nuclear bombs may make sense to some people; if the average white guy is 5'11 and the average Asian is 5'7, that doesn't mean anything about an individual. There are still 5'2 white guys and 6'3 Asian guys. Another white guy being 6' tall doesn't help the white 5'2 white guy and another Asian being 5'7 doesn't hurt the Asian guy.
The real enemy here is collectivism. The solution is individualism.

Racial hatred is a form of collectivist discrimination, not racism. It often results from improperly applying the scientific fact of racism though.
